Default What happens if I skip sleep for a night?

I didn't sleep at all tonight, I had a StarWars movie-marathon with my friends.Closest thing to sleep was closing my eyes(not sleeping) for some minutes. And thanks to their standard routines of not eating in 18 hours I got dragged with them and didn't eat anything that night(although I have eaten now). And today is workout day(80% squats, press and power cleans). So how do you think this is going to affect my workout? Can this have an effect on forthcoming workouts this week?

I can almost assure you it will have an impact on your training today. Further in the week? I guess you might be able to recover in time...it depends how hard your workouts are on you, both today and later this week. When I pull all nighters, even things like pushing a clutch pedal in seem hard, much less heavy squats. Good luck dude.

    Don't do it.

I have sleep apnea, and it is a killer. My weights have been stuck for ages. Sometimes going backwards.

Generally it's a progress killer, at least for the next day. But you should recover during the week. But I wouldn't repeat it very often. SS or TM are not suited to people who don't sleep and eat well.

Missing one night will probably have no effect at all.

Done with the workout now, everything felt so tough! But I completed all sets and reps, and I assume that it was because I had stalled before and lowered the weights for press and power cleans. Anyways, is there anything I can do except going to sleep early to "boost" recovery?

You're going to need to make up the total amount of sleep that you missed. Until then, your performance is going to be affected - if you normally sleep 8 hours, then you're going to have to tack on another 8 hours somewhere. Naps are your friend.

Also, don't pull all nighters if you're training, especially not for Star Wars. You should have just stopped at Empire Strikes Back and got some shut eye...

You will sleep deeper though after skipping a night. It's a higher quality sleep that makes up for some lost time.

I get random bouts of insomnia. If it's just one day I can usually push through the workout. It quickly adds up though and your training will take a hit. One night, seriously don't worry about it. You'll probably be weak since you didn't eat though, worst case scenario you just try again next session. I had 15 hours of sleep the past 4-5 days, and I'm right about to lift, so good luck to me...

Damn I always have trouble getting to sleep but never like that. Ever trying to get some prescription sleeping pills? I've always wanted to try ambien haha.

I've found that using a white noise machine works really well to help get me to sleep though.
