    Default Doing work....Voes training log

    Hello all

After a month long hiatus from lifting due to holidays and a very messed up work schedule I am back to continue my march forward. I am going to pick up where I left off and get back into consistant training. In my first training foray I did the novice program from SS.

    Workout A-Squat/Bench/Dead
    Workout B-Squat/Overhead press/Row
    Alternating each mon/wed/fri
I plan on repeating this template

In 8 weeks I went from
    Squat- 185x5 to 285x5, 310x1
    Bench 165x5 to 200x5, 225x1
    Dead 225x5 to 345x5, 405x1
    Overhead press 115x5 to 145x5

I achieved my minor novice goals of bench 225, squat 300 and dead 400.

I am currently around 230lb at 6'4. I am quite tall which makes me more comfortable with deads as opposed to squatting. I am a tad bit soft around the middle, but nothing that overly concerns me. That being said this time around I am putting even more emphasis on high protein and better quality food in general. As long as the weight on the bar is going up I am happy.

    Saturday 14/7/12

    Squat
    135x5
    185x5
    225x5x3sets
Decided to start these light after the hiatus. Extremely easy, had 30-40lb more in me easily. Will steadily increase these and ensure form stays on point. 235 or 245 next time.

    Bench
    135x5
    155x5
    185x5x3sets
These felt good, a solid introduction back to pressing but never in doubt. Arms were a tad shakey due to being detrained somewhat, but the weight went up steady. Will try for 190 next time.

    Deadlift
    225x5
    275x5
    325x5
Strong pulls, grip felt fairly decent even after the layoff. The final set was tough but fast. 335 next time.

Feels awesome to be back, after dealing with oh soo much real life drama. I started a bit below my maximal lifts and intend on ramping up to my pr's over the next 2-3 weeks. I know I will sore tomorrow, especially the back and legs. I am somewhat detrained, but a fair amount of my strength is intact and I know in 2-3 weeks I should be right were I was pre-layoff.

Things got messed up the past few weeks due to work. Was working 80-90hour weeks and ended up becoming overfatigued trying to keep up. Needless to say any type of lifting would have simply overwhelmed me. See if we can try this again, this time without the crushing work schedule lol.

    Monday 6/8/12

    Squat
    135x5
    185x5
    225x5x3sets
These felt rather light, but somewhat awkward. I could tell that I was out of my grove on the first set. The final 2 sets felt much better though, 230 next time.

    Bench
    135x5
    155x5
    185x5x3sets
Like the squats a little out of groove but never in doubt, 190 next time.

    Deadlift
    225x5
    275x5
    325x5
These pulls were very easy, grip was feeling stronger then ever, 335 next time.

I feel kind of fail for having lost 3 weeks due to real life rearing its ugly head, but I am glad to be back in the saddle. I did not regress any further and it is only upwards from here.
