We train mid morning. I usually just have only coffee. My training partner takes a pre-workout supplement. Lunch is when have a bigger meal.

Up at 5:45 or 6:00 a.m. Drink some water, make some coffee, and am in my garage and warming up at 6:15 or 6:30 a.m. I much prefer working out late afternoon or early evening, but I've found I can't sleep if I do so.

I tend to train late at night after work (starting at 11 PM or so). If I have something else scheduled in the evening, I'll do an early morning workout (usually around 5 AM), but those are rare.

I'll usually eat a sandwich and some fruit 2-3 hours before I train, or I'll get a protein shake a half hour beforehand, and then I'll get a meal or protein shake ASAP afterwards. Eating a solid meal right before heavy squats or deadlifts makes me want to barf, so I avoid that.

For those who train at night, do you take, or recommend taking any sleeping pills? Either diphenhydramine or doxylamine succinate (the two universal OTC sleep aids)? If not then how do you get to sleep after taking coffee or a pre-workout supplement and training at night?

Lately I've been taking a 5-hour energy first thing when I wake at 4:30. Then I'm in the gym by about 4:45 or so until 6:15-ish. I'll take a protein shake with me so I have something in my stomach. Seems to be working so far. But without caffeine in the morning, I just can't get myself going. If I didn't have to work, I'd lift at 2 in the afternoon every day after a hefty lunch. I don't like late evening sessions because I always feel like I have to keep myself motivated all day to make it in.

Usually after work (between 5 and 6 PM) during weekdays, 10-11 AM during weekends. Weekdays I take no stimulants because I already have insomnia. Weekends I train early so that I can load up on Dexaprine and the like.

I train at 0500 if I didn't work that night, or right after work if I did, which equates to 0615-0630ish.
