Thread: Rogue Bar vs B&R, stiffness comparison

Okay, so it's not just me that the pictures of that Ivanko look like there's little/no room for shins on a regular deadlift. It would be kind of stupid to have to tape up a bar that's $500+ or wear shin guards. This must be part of what people refer to as their strange knurling. I get it now.

so is there a failsafe bar purchase? Straight, not whippy, and with knurling that makes sense....?!?!

bloody hell, it's just a friggin' bar...

I still haven't found one really. Closest is the Quest Q-Bar, I'd prefer slightly less insane knurl though. I'm really close to ordering a Texas Power Bar and driving to the border to get it just for the sake of goddamn comparison at this point.

    So here's a question:

Does a 3mm bend matter for a regular joe like me? I've no intention to compete I'll be very happy to lift 500lbs for any lift and I know that'll be some time away.

I have chronic gear whore disease and I reckon I'm fussing over nought. I think I'm going to send the crap 'replacement' B&R bar just keep my original and call it good. Maybe if I hit 1,000 in S, P, and DL I'll treat myself to an Eleiko or Ivanko.

What I need now are plates - I'm 15lbs away from my limit of crappy bumper plates.

You are unlikely to notice it.

I have a Q-Bar and like it very much.

Not completely unrelated, but for the purposes of doing the basic lifts, what's the issue with a thicker bar? Thicker as in 35 mm diameter or larger. Those thick bars will definitely not whip and unlikely to bend. The only issue I think would be the grip, but for Squats, thick bars should have no issues and in fact feel better. For Presses and Bench Presses, you may have to adjust your grip a bit, and for Deadlifts you can use straps. I'm not sure thick bars are recommended for olympic style lifts like the Power Clean.

I mean, if I have a 50 mm bar (2 inches all the way), then I know for sure that bar will not whip or bend at all.

I don't know if this is a market that Rogue Fitness will want to sell to, but I sure would like to buy a 40 mm thick bar from them with all the other qualities of their Rogue Bars. (They do sell a hollow axle.)

If I could have the luxury of owning a bar for each lift, I'd definitely get myself a 32mm bar for squatting. I think a 29mm is the best compromise for a general purpose bar though.

I am very jealous. Is it pretty stiff?

It's certainly stiffer than any other bar I've ever used, but that's not really saying much. Mike Tuscherer uses a Q-Bar on his squat and deadlift, you could look at his youtube videos of when he was lifting in his garage to judge how much whip the bar has in it.
