Good article, but, just wondering, is it part of the T-Nation contract that you have to "talk dirty" in your articles, or is that just the readership level? Just wondering.

Man, that was a good article. Really.

I just refuse to read the comments.

I caught a glimpse of one quoted above unfortunately. I know that people like that exist, I just don't want to be reminded of it. I mean if our version of the press is so much easier than a strict press, than for god's sake why aren't more people at least pressing their body weight.

    Thank you Rip.

As a youngster, I remember watching Vasily Alexeev heave presses overhead on Wide World of Sports and in the Olympics. Good stuff. Why was the press taken out of competition? Anything to do with climbing ropes being taken out of school gymnasiums?

"There isn't a human being on the planet today that can press 502 pounds overhead from a standing position, much less clean it first."

Rip, or anyone who can tell me; what kind of poundage are the best pressers in the world lifting these days?

It would be the training lifts of strongman competitors. We'll ask.

Had a look, and yes the Strong men do get some impressive weight overhead in the log press, but most seem to be a push press. I have no idea myself whether a log is a fuck load harder than a barbell or not. They still aren't hitting 500 though.
