I don't clean that often anymore but my cleans have always responded best to increased frequency. This may be because I suck at cleans and the extra days of form work have helped my heavy days. Except for early stage novices I don't like triples for cleans....I like singles and doubles. And yes, getting your squat and deadlift up is the best way to a better clean for the average joe. I guess keep your heavy clean day where it is, and then maybe do a second day of lighter cleans as a warm up for your deadlift.
