Why does the recurrent laryngeal nerve take a detour around the heart in mammals? This detour is as long as 15 feet in animals like the Giraffe and the nerve passes inches from where it needs to connect. That doesn't sound like very intelligent design to me when you could cut out 15 feet of nerve and go directly to where it needs to go. God must have been drinking heavily when he designed mammals.
