When to reduce DL programming
When do I stop dead lifting every workout? I started with a bad low back and was really cautious my first dead lifts, and now I am up to 207 lbs. in 4 weeks which I know is not much compared to most, but for me I am pleased. But I really want to get past 400. I am still motivated to pull every workout, except I have decided on a M,W,F schedule with only warmups on squat and DL on Wednesdays to add recovery time. Will I know when to stop DL every workout, and add the Clean, even though I have a lot to learn on the clean? I am already doing chin-ups every other workout or so...
I am a 50 year old male novice, 196 lbs. (4 weeks SS):
OHP 112
Bench 150
Squat 185
DL 207

How is your low back and overall recovery?

The more I lift and the stronger I get, the better my back feels. Add to the fact that I have basically stopped running, which was my exercise before SS...and I keep feeling stronger and stronger. After 4 weeks, I have not stalled in anything, but have begun to consider (as I mentioned) only doing warmup sets on Wednesdays (except for my lifts). I am not sure I should do any DL on Wednesday, and begin to add Cleans (which I am trying to learn on my own working with the bar and lighter weights to learn proper form).

Do that. Add in cleans on Wednesday and DL twice weekly for as long as you can. Then clean every other workout once that gets hard which will have you deadlifting 3x in a 2 week period. Once that becomes too much, deadlift once per week.

Thanks much! Are three days a week (Mon., Wed., Fri.) better than "every two days" as long as recovery holds, and then add another day...every three days, etc...

Don't change things up until you need to. Keep simple unless circumstances dictate otherwise.
