Well, obviously since sprinters don't use their hamstrings there is no need to squat deep. I'm very excited about this new breakthrough, it means I can finally get my squat numbers up!

Rather the female trainee, if you ask me. Hilarious video, too.

They shouldn't be allowed to call what they are doing a squat. I mean, everyone knows what a squat looks like. This is not a squat. It's not even an exercise. It's literally just putting weight on your back and going down a little. They would be much better off doing a leg press, the range of motion is far greater. This dude is on Fox News spouting nonsense and probably gets paid really well to do what he does. It's sickening. The fitness industry is a sad joke.

A fart in the wind. Even though only a small amount of trainees squat below parallel in many gyms, it's still more than I ever saw 10 years ago. I think full heavy barbell lifts are coming back, however slowly, with Aaasgard leading the way.

I've been doing squats for three years now and I don't look at all like that sprinter. Oh shit I bet it's because I'm doing full squats. Noted and changed.

I thought we already had this discussion months ago? Quarter squats are better for athletic performance! If it helps jumpers, why not sprinters?

The only additional cost is that you may have to say bye-bye to your knees!

This should be saved for eternity.

Maybe it's because I'm under the influence of drugs, but I couldn't help but read your text in a thick southern accent.

Things are certainly improving at my gym. Some of the trainers are still coaching quarter squats with the pad on, but me and a couple of other trainers coach it properly. It used to be that the other trainers could spot who I'd given programmes to because the person would be doing goblet squats, or back squats to proper depth, now some of the other trainers are doing these and a few gym members untrained by anyone are trying to copy it.

One of my clients bought herself a copy of Starting Strength after see a youtube Rip interview I sent her, and once or more a month I'll come across someone who's started lifting because of that book. The other day one of the front desk guys who's done Crossfit asked me to coach a woman in squats, I did so, and yesterday I found her trying to coach her friend, I helped out and pointed out the things to look for.

There are now actually times in the gym when I can't take my PT clients into either of the power racks because they're both occupied - by people squatting properly. This hasn't happened in my previous two years' employment as a PT.

The vast majority of gym-goers are still fucking about pointlessly, doing half range of motion exercises (eg one gym-goer claims 34 wide-grip chinups, yeah rightyo mate whatever you say) and so on. But the minority doing things properly is growing. This minority will never become a majority. But it's larger than it used to be, and growing.
