... talk about a gut check. I had neglected the press for quite a while leading up to my meet, and I hadn't done any cleans since I hurt my back a few months back. These did not go as well as I had hoped. I'm probably 20lbs behind what I was in the press and 40lbs behind what I was on the power cleans, to the point that I can probably now press more than I can clean. It was exhausting cleaning every set and added a whole new dimension of difficulty to the press.
It will be a long hard road back but I'm making the press a priority over the bench press now and I'm going to clean every rep. Hopefully my form will get back to what it was and I'll be able to make steady progress.
I know I've seen others promote cleaning all their presses before, I just figured I'd endorse this idea too. It's a great feeling. I recommend trying it if you're not already.
