    Default I started cleaning my presses and.............

    ... talk about a gut check. I had neglected the press for quite a while leading up to my meet, and I hadn't done any cleans since I hurt my back a few months back. These did not go as well as I had hoped. I'm probably 20lbs behind what I was in the press and 40lbs behind what I was on the power cleans, to the point that I can probably now press more than I can clean. It was exhausting cleaning every set and added a whole new dimension of difficulty to the press.

    It will be a long hard road back but I'm making the press a priority over the bench press now and I'm going to clean every rep. Hopefully my form will get back to what it was and I'll be able to make steady progress.

    I know I've seen others promote cleaning all their presses before, I just figured I'd endorse this idea too. It's a great feeling. I recommend trying it if you're not already.

    I've done it in the past, and I really liked it. I might have to give it another try now that you brought this up.

    I often find that cleaning what I will press makes my presses go more easily.

    Man, if I cleaned every press rep I would be way out of breath. My press is nowhere near my max clean, but still.

    To the OP, if you've been doing your squats and deads, your PC shouldn't really have budged.

    I had actually deloaded my press when I was cleaning every rep. I'd probably have to do the same thing again because it is really tiring.

    I enjoy cleaning every set of my presses. Just makes it more enjoyable and doesn't seem to affect my presses, plus its got to help doing extra work with building more fitness

    I was only cleaning at the begining of the set, but I noticed that the first rep was always the smoothest and easiest. Yesterday I failed a rep, dropped it, reset, cleaned it, and I struggled, but it went up. I may start cleaning every rep and see how it goes.

    I think that's what's going to happen with me, but there is only one way to find out.

    My squat and deadlift took a big hit when I hurt my back, so I'm still building them back up. The difference is I never built my cleans or press back up. Also, I'm sure I'm leaving a lot of weight off the bar due to technical errors. My clean is nowhere near as crisp as it was. I'll probably find my max clean & press next week, then use 5/3/1 percentages to build it back up.

    I can't figure how someone can properly position their hands for a good press after cleaning the bar and having it rest on their anterior deltoids. Elite level Olympic lifters use to do it, I know, but I still think that properly setting up your hand position while the bar is in the rack allows for a better press.
