As a Missourian I wouldn't have voted for him anyway probably since I'm generally team blue, but this does make my decision feel a lot better. IMO team red needs to remove this guy from being center stage ASAP because they will just keep making distinctions between him and Paul Ryan, who is pretty far right in this debate also. This will definitely be interesting to see play out since team red really wanted that senate seat
I heard this yesterday and almost started a thread titled "Who Wants 30 Seconds With a 2 x 4 with Akin?" Moron. Get rid of this clown. Anyone who votes for him is right up there with the Show Me State people who voted for the deceased Mel Carnahan in 2000. Not even Cook County pulled one like that off. The dead may vote there, but only for the living. Sorry Mdemarco. Most Missourians I have known have more sense than this. Especially the ones from Cape Girardeau.
What in the Hell is in the water there to turn out idiots like this? As much fun as I've made of South Carolina for dumb-ass Team Red politicians, this guy needs some at least minor league blunt force trauma applied to the right side of his head.
The only possible reason for bringing the subject up would be to try to make the argument that exceptions in restrictions on abortion rights (rape, incest) aren't needed because the body handles it naturally.
That argument really misses a lot of points besides just being wrong.
The argument that a fetus is innocent human life regardless of the circumstances of conception stands on it's own.
The argument that the government should be able to force women to carry these pregnancies to term is not going to win, and shouldn't.
I think the reason for this is that Akin is making the claim. I haven't looked into any studies on rape/pregnancy- but what was said doesn't seem logical, doesn't seem to be consistent with what is known about basic biology... So, he is welcome to explain the mechanisms by which the female body knows the difference between an intentional/consensual pregnancy vs a rape pregnancy if he wishes to back his claim. In Akin's original quote he cited "what I understand from doctors" as his source.
So, as thefrightnight said, there really is no substance there to address.
CNN just said Akin said he was staying in within the last 30 minutes on Huckabees radio show. No worries MEH, there are a lot of idiots in this state for sure, as In The rest of the country the crazies seem to always have the loudest voice. Guess that's why they get the coverage
Indeed. Electing Reagan was terrible, the 2/3 majority requirement for raising revenue is also foolish, and Bono was a stupid lapdog for the MPAA and RIAA. Did mroe to undermine the original intent of public domain than any single politician in history that I know of.
