    I think the overinterpretation of the data out there supporting carb free recovery formulas is very dangerous. While it's hard to tease out many things in exercise science, teasing out benefits of consuming the correct amount of protein and total cals to support optimal BW and body fat through different macronutrient profiles is probably one of the hardest. In the defense of low carb/carb free recovery, sure- the body will make glucose without carbs and sure, protein intake will get enough insulin release to drive initial recovery rates. That said, carbohydrates are synergistic with protein for muscle protein synthesis and they tend to improve performance when tested in anaerobic settings. I don't think low carb recovery is superior to a higher carb intake in any way if the calories and protein intakes are the same.
