Default Assistance from shoes and knee sleeve

    Hi,

I've been on the same weight (150 kg, give or take a few kg) in the squat for some time, mainly because of injuries, the flu and other external events that prevented me from training according to the plan. I've had to reset and work my way back a few times. Every time I've hit 150 or above it feels pretty tough and I feel that my form breaks down.

Yesterday I did 150 kg 5x3, and don't get me wrong it was heavy, but all reps felt solid and it felt much better than the previous times. The difference is that I upgraded my weightlifting shoes from Adidas powerlift 2.0 (http://www.adidas.com/us/powerlift-2...es/Q33821.html) to adipower (http://www.adidas.com/us/adipower-we...es/M21865.html). I also put on a 7mm Rehband knee sleeve (http://www.roguefitness.com/rehband-...ee-support-7mm), because my knee have been hurting.

Does the rehband and the shoes make that much difference or am I just getting stronger?

I understand it might be impossible answer my question, but have you any experience from something similar? I feel that the new shoes are much better and with the rehband my knee doesn't hurt, maybe it's just mental... Either way as long as I can add weight to the bar and it goes up I'm happy

Anyway here are some videos from the strength camp in Copenhagen, just an FYI:

I have don't have any films from when i squat with the new shoes and so but the feeling is the same, my form should be pretty ok.

    Cheers
    Mikael

I didn't watch your vids because they're not of this actual set. But yes, better shoes and lack of pain or anticipating pain during a set can make a huge difference. Both allow you to better express the strength you have.

Thanks Wolf, I did manage to capture a video of today's training. Any feedback is appreciated.

The video is from set 2. First set was 155kg for 5. I felt that was not as tight as I should have been. Third set I dropped the weight to 145 kg.

Don't mind the guy scratching his ass after rep 4...

Ya, these aren't bad but you're losing tightness at the bottom which could definitely help you be more efficient and keep a more vertical bar path. Control your descent even more, keeping in mind that when it's hardest to stay tight going down - the bottom 1/3 of the descent - is when it's most important to do so. Also, keep your eye gaze steady. Looks like you were switching around your focal point right before descent.

Thanks! Spot on feedback. I think I struggle with the eye gaze mostly because of the mirrors around me. I'll work on it and focus more, and of course keep adding weight to the bar.
