Super Dosing Fish Oil
Hi Jordan,
I saw this article and did some searching on your board for your opinion about super dosing fish oil.
My question is, how does the "average doctor" versus the "average strength coach" dosing vary, and why? My guess is that average doctor's recommended dose would be small, something on the order of whats recommended on most bottles. It seems most meat head recommendations are from 4-6gs, which is considerably higher. I think that works out to 12 pills for me.
My own assumption is that the health crowd is interested in heart health benefits, but the lifting crowd is interested in anti inflammatory benefits. Who's right and why?

I think the meat head recommendations are not only NOT supported by research, but also fail to take into consideration the risk profile of fish oil. I think any one who recommends super dosing fish oil should be avoided.
The literature is pretty mixed as far as efficacy of fish oil on outcomes like primary prevention of CVD, stroke, obesity, etc. At best, there's some evidence it may be a decent supplement at lose doses (1-2g) and of no harm besides spending some money. I don't think it's terribly useful for most, however.

Thanks very much, I intend to adjust accordingly.
