Below are my April 3rd cleans. I tried to really extend my hips, but my ankles and feet seem glued to the floor. How do I stop this problem?

From today. Lots of arm bed. I hate it. I was also catching my knee sleeves on each lift. But lots of arm bend. Don't say the "D" word, unless you have to

You are trying to keep your feet pinned to the ground. There are a number of reasons we teach the clean as a jump. One of them is so that you move your feet from a pulling stance to a squat stance. That is, your feet need move out a little wider as you receive the bar. I want you to review the teaching progression for the clean in Starting Strength. Video yourself doing a set of five at 135. For the first three reps of the set, jump as high into the air as you can with straight arms. You'll pull the bar off the ground, touch the mid thigh, but you'll keep your arms locked. You'll feel the bar want to keep going up, but your locked elbows will arrest its upward trajectory. For the next two, jump and rack while making sure to emulate the feel of the jump with locked arms. Then, apply that to your heavier sets.

    Tom,

Oddly enough, Yesterday I drove and had a training session with Karl Schudt. We worked on the power clean. In his opinion, my ideal jumping position is a little lower on the thigh. I was also starting with the bar forward of mid foot. I was more mid shoe. We worked all the way up to a set of 3 at 185.

Maybe he can chime in, if that is alright with you, and give his feedback. I feel like we worked it out.

Considerably better, especially on your first rep. Just one more reason why you cannot coach people over the Internet. In person coaching can fix a lot of things where video is a hard road and often just cannot get it done. Support your local SSCs.

You could still probably use a little bit of work on keeping the arms straight, but those actually looked a lot more like cleans.
