    Default Lower back 'weakness'

    Hello coach.
I suffer from lower back pain, although I've gone to the doctor with some X-rays, and he said I'm OK, it hurts because my muscles aren't strong enough.

Is Starting Strength a good program for me? Do I need to do any adjustments?

    Thank you.

I don't know. Have you had a previous injury that might account for your back pain? If so, it needs to be evaluated. If the doc is right, it will be the first time in history that a doctor has recommended strength training for the right reasons.

It started when I started to 'force' my body, about 3 years ago when I started to ride bmx. It stopped hurting (also I stopped riding). In the beginning of this year, my little cousin hit me in the lower back (I was lying on the floor and he fell in my lower back, with his knees) and then it started to hurt again. I said it to the doctor and he said it wasn't the 'real' cause for the pain, sooner or later I would start to feel it again, the incident just helped. He saw the X-rays and said my lower back is all right and recommended me to lift weights (with no exercises restrictions (also I didn't ask if I could squat or deadlift)) or to start swimming.

Well, tomorow I will start your program, with light weights. I will be using ice on my rest days(do you recommend it?) and stretching everyday. Let's see how it goes.

    Any comment will be appreciated.

    Thank you.
