In an old, rather amusing thread about bench pressing's effects on breasts, Dr.T wrote:

We do not recommend bench press or other pectoralis major exercises at all for patients with subpec implants, and Rippetoe agrees with this.
Stupid question: does that include the overhead press?

Context: wife had a mastectomy, and I'm breaking her of the pastel-dumbell habit, but need to know what she can safely do.

Further, she'll be getting a second reconstruction surgery that involves removing muscle from her back to the front. Anyone have any experience they can share on rehab from this kind of surgery?

She can probably press without much trouble. I had a client with submuscular implants who did not bench, but she pressed without issue. Give it a try. She'll know if things feel okay and go from there.

Honestly, I've read much dumber things and it is related to the topic at hand. We'll leave it in.
