After noticing a loss of strength over the past year, my son suggested that I start strength training with Dr. Jonathon Sullivan (Sully) at Grey Steel fitness in Farmington, MI. I had always thought barbells were a “guy” thing, but I was wrong. It has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I was told that the gym I just started training at was 60/40 female to male. Appeared to be more than that. Welcome aboard.
Welcome! I'll be following along. Did it take much for your son to convince you? I've suggested it to my mom a few times but she needs a bit more coaxing.
Hi Carson,
You know me. I train just before you on Mon & Fri. I'll answer truthfully because my reason for posting is to encourage others. I'm 74 years old, 5' 1" tall, and weigh 147 (in my birthday suit).
Thank you, waistline warrior!
It didn't take much encouragement. I was mostly concerned with working in a safe environment because several of my friends have sustained injuries from too aggressive a work out with the wrong supervision. My son did all the research and located a safe trainer/training environment for me. When I told him how pleased I was with Grey Steel he said, "I'm just glad you had someone so qualified in your area. I doubt there's a better coach for you anywhere in the country." I couldn't agree more.
Wow, great progress! It sounds like you've found an excellent coach.

This will seem like a silly accomplishment to most of you; heck, probably all of you. Before, when opening a new bottle of laundry detergent, I have had to put the neck of the bottle into the bench vice, clamp down, then twist the bottle. The last time I did this, it cracked the neck of the bottle, causing detergent to pour out everywhere instead of into the measuring cap. I repaired it with duck tape, and it worked fine. This morning, I gave the cap a quick twist with my hand and it opened! One less frustration in my life. I see this as a very positive sign that yes, I am getting stronger week by week with strength training. This 74 year old lady is very happy.
