    Guess I should introduce myself:

    Height: 5'11"
    Weight: 228
    Age: 34

Background. Former military guy, now just a guy that wants to be strong enough to be an example to my son and to scare off any unapproved males that might be interested in my daughters.

Have trained before; never got very strong. Tried lots of things in the past, this time I'm just going to do what the book says.

I have had 3 hernia surgeries in the last 8 months (inguinal) and am starting very light to try and ease back into this thing.

Take it slow. Be consistent but smart.

Fellow dad here who got big to scare the males away from my daughter too haha! Excellent game plan btw, slow and steady is the smart way to go about things. The only unsolicited advice that I could give is don't be afraid to drop down to 5 lbs increments sooner rather than later, but only you can really know when bar speed is slowing down and things are feeling grindy.

I wish you luck with your training. If you DTP you'll be at a 3 plate squat in no time.

My plan is when my squat feels "hard" I'll start doing 5lb increments. So far it's felt pretty easy.
