    Swingshiftworker,

Very good information. I will ask the orthopedist about a good brace for skiing. I definitely don't want to give it up. Thanks!

    Two updates:

    - I had started squatting again after PT got me to that point. Worked my way up to 95lbs 5x3 when I had a setback. I always ran down my driveway to get the morning paper, and I was feeling so good, I just started running one morning without thinking about it. Big mistake. Knee swelled up and the MCL made itself known, not hurting but feeling "puffy and loose." After a week off, I restarted squats again with the bare bare. I'll be more careful now.

If it doesn't get back to "solid" in 6 months, I'll have the graft surgery.

    - Just got the custom knee brace. I'll be using it for sailing, but hope it works for skiing this winter! If it doesn't work, then I think I'll have to have the ACL surgery too. Not looking forward to that.

    I'll keep you posted.

In any case it great to be back in the gym and lifting again, even with these pitiful weights.

Perhaps you better ask for a second opinion. Just my thought

About what? Squatting for rehab? (The doc and PT think its crazy.) Getting a new ACL? An MCL graft? For sure. I will get a second opinion on those before moving forward.
