The same could be said about low bar squats.

Low bar squats are used to recruit more muscle mass not shorten the range of motion. Sumo is about range of motion.

    Are these 1RM's or 5RM's?

I just started true intermediate programming about a month ago and I feel like I am struggling a bit but I did hit a 165lb 1RM Press and a 415lb 1RM Deadlift a few weeks back but my squat is hanging back at 275lb and my bench at 220lbs.

I'm 6'3" and a bit of praying mantis (all arms and legs and shorter torso), so I struggle with squat, bench and press but my deadlift always seems strong.

I guess my question to you is are you a proportionate 6'2". The ratio of the Lifts would suggest that to me. Just curious.

Those are my last numbers for 1 rep x 3 sets, so not really a 1RM, but certainly not a 5RM. My last 5RM on squat was 370 (last night).

As for being proportional, who knows? I do have fairly long arms and legs and a shorter torso. Squat has been my strong suit all along with the presses and deadlift being a struggle.

I disagree, Devil Dog. They are both used to gain a leverage advantage. The only reason people here are against Sumo, is because Rip doesn't like it.
    Good luck with your training.

    Peace.
Yep, do a meet. You'll find some friendly competition. I'm 53 and have a 465 squat, 335 bench, and 525 deadlift done in a recent competition and am neck to neck with another masters 2 lifter for the provincial records in our class (I beat his total by 2.5kg). We competed together in a recent meet and the competition drove us both.

    I'm shooting for a 500 squat, 600 deadlift, 375 bench, and a 275 press...

Those are some impressive numbers! Thanks. I was going to do a meet last November, but had to back out for personal reasons. I will look for a meet.
