    Question new geezer

    Hi!
I'm a 60 years old man from Sweden. I started with starting strength in january with light weights. I have both books, starting strength and ppst, training with all the lifts all according to the program. When I read in ppst, the book say there is not enough rest and recovery for an old man and some exercises should be avoided as the injury risk increases. Should I start training according to ppst (pages for older lifters) ??

    todays training
    squat 87kg 5*3
    press 52,75kg 5*3
    dead lift 115kg 5*3

The main caution on lifts for us older folks is the power clean and the snatch. The explosiveness might result in injuries. I'm 66 and still do power cleans now and again, although currently I am doing high pulls instead.

I'm not entirely sure what you are asking beyond that, but your current program looks OK. If you are running into problems recovering, you might consider lifting twice instead of three times a week.

Also, I recommend The Barbell Prescription by Andy Baker and Jonathon Sullivan both SSC's. It was written specifically for the elderly.

If not a typo, the first change should be reducing to one set of deadlifts. Unless you're a lightweight, you likely have some room for progress before needing another change.

I have two suggestions for you:

First get the latest book, The Barbell Prescription, Strength Training for Life After 40

The Barbell Prescription: Strength Training for Life After 40: Jonathon M Sullivan, Andy Baker, Nassim Nicholas Taleb: 9780982522776: Amazon.com: Books

2nd, I think you would benefit a GREAT deal from working with Starting Strength Online Coaching. They have several older coaches who seem to really know what they're talking about. At least the one they have me working with does. He's 66, so he knows about older guy's aches and pains.
