But does Bret think that Rip thinks that Bret thinks that Rip thinks that Bret has people just hip thrust around the gym and play with resistance bands?

I doubt he really gives a shit either way. Its just a topic for him to podcast about to raise his profile a little more to sell some more butt cheek activation technique seminars or whatever.

How can a guy dl 562 and not get close to a 400 squat?

    have really long legs,

doing glute training all the time; neglecting your quadz (knee extensors)

and probably the not training the squat right.

    A) Nice necro. Threw me off to see Carlos Daniel until I checked the date.

    B) My favorite part about the idea that the squat doesn't utilize the glutes much is that Contreras also has given credence to the "hamstrings can't meaningfully extend the hip in deep knee flexion" idea, a la Nuckols.

So, the glutes don't fire, and then the hamstrings don't work... so is someone squatting several hundred pounds just equipped with mega adductors? Or are we just hoping for quads and calves so damn powerful that they somehow manage to move everything in the closed chain anyways? Seems... undercooked, at best.

According to some of the stuff I've read by Nuckols, apparently, yes. I am less familiar with Brett's work, having no interest whatsoever in 3 inch rack pulls.
