Were you deadlifting fatigued from grip training?
After reading this thread I've just bought the 0.5. Can get 8 reps on it. My DoH deadlift is 340 ish and my hands are fairly small. I imagine it'll take me a while to get near the 2.5

    I ordered a CoC set of 5 cause of this thread. I got the trainer, 1, 1,.5, 2, 2.5.

    Some interesting strangth comparisons:
On the trainer, I can just barely get 5 reps with my left hand. Right can do enough that I'm not interested in trying to rep out.
I can just barely close a 1.5 with the right hand. I cannot come close to closing a 2 or 2.5.
On deadlifts, I can DOH 417.5, best mixed is 510.

Throwing in my own data points.
I used the CoC #1 last night.
I managed to completely close 2 sets of 5 reps with my right hand.
With my left hand I could only close the #1 once, the remaining reps progressively worsening.
My heaviest deadlift (mixed grip) is 535.
Doubt I could close the 1.5 right now.

Grip is an odd thing. I don't pull much thanks to a year of seemingly consecutive injuries that keep me from training like I want, but I can still get into the low 5's with a mixed grip however I can barely, and I mean barely close CoC 1 one time. But I also have tiny girl hands (I'm a full grown male, just to clarify) and can barely get my fingers around the grippers. I did manage to lift to a standing position a 150-something thick handled fixed dumbbell but failed miserably at the full size 172 pound one.

I have a friend with fairly large hands who has trouble hanging onto any deadlift above 315.

So I dunno. As I said, grip strength is odd.

This new video from Brian Alsruhe might help you out.

Yeah grip is a bastard, I am just saddened by mine after having surgery on both hands. No longer get numb hands but they feel useless still after 16 months. Slow as hell to regain strength and dexterity apparently, even though surgeons said I should be back to near normal after a year, I am still feeling behind

I recently implemented some grip training that worked. I haven't read through the whole thread, so I apologize if this is redundant.

Deadlift itself is the builder for deadlift grip. As much as you can pull without straps should be pulled without straps. When you feel that grip is starting to become a limiting factor, immediately switch to straps for remaining sets.

When you have to start using straps, separate grip work has to be added. The grip work I implemented was a deadlift loaded to ~50% held with competition grip for 3 sets of 20 seconds. I did that once a week at the end of training.

Progress on grip is measured solely by ability to hold onto 1RM. No need to care about grip holding on higher-rep sets.

Thanks, I will give that a shot too. The more easy little things I can add in the better chance of fixing my weak hands. I just have to aim for weights under where even straps fail me because my fingers can't grip

So I saw a specialist about a different issue today and he asked about my hands surprisingly. Turns out I have a neurological condition that messes with the blood flow in my hands, when I work them they don't get enough blood and then they over compensate with extra vasodilation.

So I need to work on some how improving circulation or at least paying attention to the blood flow better to avoid trying to grip things when my hands go ischemic. Will make things interesting but gives some answers at least

Taken a deload to get back to things with out taking weeks to recover and make sure I am working on my grip. Still haven't got any chalk yet but I am using the hook grip for deadlifts and it is feeling good at 80 kg. I will have to see how I go when the weight gets back up to where I struggled but it is a start and having no bar roll is nice.
