My thinking is I could use a lower load and systematic stress as with the front squats in the older version.
I don't see why it would be very different than using a Front Squat on Recovery Day (except for the obvious fact that it is heresy to train with any implement except the standard barbell).

There are reasons to use an SSB, but I can't see why you would specifically want it for light day other than boredom reason. That said, it is still a real enough squat and is not the end of the world.
I'm going to give it a try. If I works I'll apply it to my bench press too.
That's not unfortunate at all. The SSB is better than a straight bar.

it just seems significantly easier to get a tight back with a straight bar. I workout at home so it's not an issue to use the ssb but if i want to workout at a commercial gym I would have to use that strap assisted squat.
do you happen to have any experience with using the straps as handles?
