I thought some of you might enjoy seeing how the greatest of all time trained in his younger days. Ed was being coached by Ernie Frantz back then.
I find it to be an interesting and unique progression.

    I don't get it. 1 set of 8 reps, twice a week?

That's just his top set. Doesn't include work up sets.

I just drove past Ed Coan's wife today. She was walking down the street holding a tiny little dog.

Wow I just realized this says "Assuming the lifter can squat 600 lbs" - nice demographic for that magazine.

I think a 5-6.6% strength increase in 12 weeks for someone who is already pretty strong is very far off from what most people could expect from such a routine. Most people who aren't on drugs with super DNA. No disrespect to Ed Cone for being both of these things, but the results he got from his training are different from the results others should expect.

Is that Ed Coan in the picture ? I'm assuming a young Ed Coan. Where's the thumb of his left hand?

Right. Almost like it's over the bar. So, if Eddie did it, then it's cool.

He says in the article, "I suggest you pyramid up to the weights I have listed in the cycle," then proceeds to give an example for the first week being 135x10, 225x5, 315x3, 365x2, then obviously you'd do 400x8 as shown.
