Bob Gaynor. He's 64yo. In this clip he DLs 680# -- competing in the 198# class. Needless to say, that impresses me. At almost 55yo, I'm currently good for around 475#. This gives me inspiration to keep on going. How about the rest of you rocking chair commandos?

Impressive DL. I also watched another video of his bench and was shocked to seem him use the "suicide grip" that some power lifters use. That is a quick way to end his power lifting career at his age IMHO.

Strong old man is strong. I would be very happy with 2/3 of his numbers when I reach his age in 20 years.

Ok, now I am totally depressed. I am 51 and just attained a new PR in the DL at 335lb. about 30 min ago. Looks like I have a hell of a long way to go.

How many years lifting experience do you have to have opinions like that?

At 64 years old, do you think that maybe that guy has been lifting for a little while?
and perhaps knows how to hold a bar?

He sure is strong, and I don't know where he gets it but it's impressive as hell. Check out this vid of him SQUATTING 500# raw. I look at his legs and can't see from where that strength comes, but man, he just cranks it out.

Gaynor is a real inspiration for us 'elderly' types. But here is something that I find very interesting - he's stronger than he was last year. That gives me hope.

I have to agree with BIF. He is definitley stronger than he looks.

Tate's take on the 'false/suicide' grip.

As a power lifter, I have zero years experience but I do have a copy of Starting Strength and I do remember reading that Rip is not a fan of the suicide grip.
