    Default Bad Forearm = PC replacement?

    My training partner had an injury during a wrestling match and snapped his forearm. It's been awhile and his doctor gave him the go to train again, and now he's been on SS for a month and doing fine with all the exercises at moderately heavy weight, save the PC. He cannot get into rack position because his forearm feels a bit strained when getting into the rack position, and we don't want to risk anything.

    I know in a recent thread you told someone if they can't rack the bar then the exercise is useless and they should just Deadlift instead. The problem is, having read SS I'd assume that the PC is essential to making the strength gains transferable to athletic movements (right?) and because of that I'd assume it'd be best for him to have an explosive replacement for the PC?

    I don't think we can do Power Snatches because we have no bumper plates or proper mats which plates can bounce off of (backyard gym).

    You're saying he had a bone fracture in his arm and now it's healed ?
    What's "a bit strained" ?
    He needs to get the flexibility back in his arm muscles back in order. Practicing the rack position w/ a mid weight bar is one way to do that. Otherwise stretching and "mobility stuff" etc. Also, what would you be "risking" in this case? if he's good enough to wrestle he should be good enough to PC.

    Wow. How long was it between the injury and resumption of training? How do the presses feel for him?

    I just ask out of curiosity; I have no special insight.

    You can power snatch without bumpers, just like you can power clean without bumpers. You'll probably need to be conservative with loading, but it can be done. In the meantime, you will be getting your form down and working on an explosive lift.

    Oh wow, I didn't think this thread was moved and thought it just was not posted, so sorry. The injury happened about (I would like to say) 7 months ago. He started doing SS a little bit more than a month ago. Presses feel fine for him. By "risking" something I mean we don't want for him to re-injure the forearm by doing something stupid.

    The reason the PC hurts the forearm is because of the position of the actual hand, the more his wrist bends backwards the more strain it puts on his forearm is what it seems like. So I guess that means it's a muscle flexibility issue? Practice the rack position plus mobility exercises until the pain disappears?

    The thing I was wondering about doing the Power Snatch without Bumpers is that because we can't just dump the iron plates, does being conservative with the weight of the Power Snatch allow enough explosiveness to be trained (enough explosiveness to actually have an effect)? And also, when being lowered down without dumping, would it create too much strain on the rotater cuffs?
