    Hello, people.

Recently, my brother has been wanting to lift weights with me and I see it as a good opportunity for developing our relationship as well as getting him in shape (or at least strong) but even as Mark Ripptoe said, how would I go about showing my brother the ropes?

I would love to have him start SS I just don't know where to begin and or how to properly teach him.

Any advice would be much appreciative.

perfect time to start lifting. There is no reason he will find it hard unless he is just not interested.

Yes. I am having him read the book before we even do anything with the bar.

Alright. Just to be clear, pretty much follow the book? I understand weight wise but what bout form wise? I would imagine his criteria for good form on stuff like Deads would be different than mine.

Yes, your setup for deads may look different due to different anthropometry, but the setup is essentially this, if you don't exactly recall:
    1. Middle of foot under bar
    2. Grip bar
    3. Shins to bar
    4. Squeeze chest up without dropping the hips

I use that exact set-up for mine. Thank you though.

    starting strength coach development program
I started SS with my 14 year old son this summer. The book worked fine for him (and me) to learn the lifts, and we essentially coached each other from the book and website videos.

On advice from this site, we focused extra hard on getting the form right before adding much weight.

He did need a lighter bar and a couple boxes (to get the bar at the right height for the floor lifts). We also got 1.25lb plates so he could make LP on presses. If your brother is already big and strong, you might not need such things.
