“[R]ecent personal training licensing proposals would provide little or no benefit to the consuming public; are unworkable; and would require a hand-picked cabal to arbitrarily decide standards of care and requirements of practice, backed up by threat of criminal liability commensurate with serious offenses like drunk driving and assault.”

Excellent article. Reading the above reminds me of the Hillarycare laws proposed in early 90s. The government provided a prison term and a fine of 10k for any MD that rendered care to a patient outside the government sanctioned process........PER EACH INDIVIDUAL VIOLATION. Liability nearly endless and open ended.

The BMQA in California is notorious for licensing of everything.....and underserving and undermining everyone.

I have a long experience in the credentials business as a founding member and first Chair of testing committee ARMRIT.....the first and only alternative to the mammoth ARRT...who lobbied Congress to pass laws giving it exclusive authority as to who would operate diagnostic mri scanners. 30 years later.....still a battle.....despite grudging coexistence.

Rip would probably be a very popular strength coach in prison.

"Do you wish to know whether that day is coming? Watch money. Money is the barometer of a society's virtue. When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion – when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing – when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors – when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you – when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice – you may know that your society is doomed. Money is so noble a medium that it does not compete with guns and it does not make terms with brutality. It will not permit a country to survive as half-property, half-loot."
