I used to have a bad habit of closing my eyes as I strained through the sticking point of the squat. The inside of the eyelids are not a useful reference point.
A recent Barbell Logic podcast mentioned imagining two pressure sensors in each shoe, one at the heel and one at the ball of the foot and to maintain a 50:50 distribution of weight across them, I have used this and found it useful.
