Wednesday Oct 19th 2011 - Bench Press Day

75kg (165 lbs) x 8
100kg (220 lbs) x 3
120kg (265 lbs) x 5,5,5,5,4 (each set equal to 5RM)
Fuck. So close. This has happened so often with a 5x5 or 6x5 PR. I'm thinking it's psychological rather than physical. I think I get so relieved to be near the end that I subconsciously begin to relax and lose tension. I have to learn to fight that tendency.

Squat
BW x 5,5

70kg (154 lbs) x 5

120kg (265 lbs) x 3 Whoa!
140kg (309 lbs) x 1 (wraps and belt on)
150kg (331 lbs) x 1 (light as a feather)
After I managed a couple of pain-free sets I decided to try a little more weight (I haven't squatted for real since Aug 12th). No pain and everything was easy. I thought of going up a bit more, but decided not to push my luck. I'll see whether this has a detrimental effect on my knees over the next couple of days.
People are pushing me pretty hard to go for the Icelandic Cup on Nov 26th. I had pretty much written it off because a) it's up north in Akureyri, a long expensive trip and b) I can't squat. But now, maybe ... I have 6 days to decide.
