Thank you, Slow. I'm old enough to know that I'm never going to set the world on fire, but I'm satisfied if I get the odd PR or two and turn in a solid performance on the day.

Recent upheavals mean that our IPF affiliated PL fed is mostly old guys and kids nowadays, but we're seeing huge expansion in number of members and competitors as parents see our organisation as an acceptable sporting avenue rather than a kind of street gang. I quite enjoy it.

You guys have 300k people and more than one PL fed? That's funny. Especially as it sounds like you've got problems keeping a PL gym in business. "Come to Iceland, home of legendary strongmen, PL-cub, where we have more PL feds than gyms".

Well, until 2007, we had just one fed, Kraft.is (kraft=power) which stood outside the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland, ISI. Kraft.is left ISI in a huff in 1985 over a drug-testing squabble.

In 2007, the board of Kraft.is decided to reapply to ISI and take up drug testing. After heated arguments, most of the members left and started their own feds, the largest two of which are WPC and WPF affiliates. The WPC affiliate also started a RAW fed recently.

There are many small PL gyms, but I don't want to train in them. We have one really big gym chain with about 30-40K members that pretty much drives all the little gyms out of business. Gyms cannot survive on powerlifters alone, there's not enough of them. Not in Iceland and not in Wichita Falls. What they need are housewives who use the cardio machines and silent members who pay their annual dues and show up 4 times. The big chain sucks up that clientele, leaving the small gyms to survive on a tiny hard core. Which is impossible.

Kraft.is has entered ISI now, taken up mandatory drug-testing and membership has increased greatly. Without the hardcore, as it were.

Technically speaking, those front squats are PRs, but I've never pushed them, just used them for warmup. I can do more.

In case this is the last post before Saturday, GL in the meet.

Bet you're going to rock all over.

Here's hoping that both of our performances on Saturday reflect all the struggles and sacrifices of our training. I'm looking forward to your meet report my friend. Video if you can!

Thanks, Joe and Kaisheem. Good luck to you too.

I'm not going to train any more before the meet.

After the meet I'm doing something completely different for a couple of months, mixing things up. I want to bring up my press and my conditioning, drop a couple of kilos so I fit comfortably into the new 93kg IPF weight class and test my sumo deadlift thoroughly to determine whether this will be the way to go in future. The squat, bench, conventional deadlift and chins will be "at maintainenance" only.

In February I will probably start another PL cycle, preparing for the nationals in March.
