I've been considering going to something like the following: week (A) heavy squat, speed deadlift; week (B) speed squat, heavy deadlift. I'll probably decide next week whether to experiment.

    6/6
Squat 420x5,5,5 (could have grinded 1 more rep on last set but played it smart)
Back down work (oly paused squat) 225x5,5,5
    Ab pulldowns 2x20

--Decent day. My spinal erectors were still screaming from Monday's deadlifts. I was nowhere near recovered for this workout. And I'm getting old (for a competitive lifter). Hence, my thoughts in the first part of the post above.

You think squatting 1x every 2 weeks will be enough? Could you mix up the arrangement so squatting comes first (giving your back 3 days of rest instead of 2)?

I don't want to hear about getting old.

I'd still be squatting every week, but only heavy squatting every other week. I could squat Monday and pull Thursday. I'll consider it.

30+ is old, man. We don't all have the DRice hormone profile haha.

6/11 Bench day in my new Mermen shirt (thanks, Dana!)

    Bench (paused) 280 5x5
    Pullups bwx10,11,12

--Felt harder today than it should have. Probably because of the shirt and I had this running through my mind: "This one coach tried to put me on a weight training program. And I was all like 'you and your weights can go fuck off somewhere — I am not lifting that shit — it’s heavy.' You tell me why I need strength training when I am strong enough to throw a god damn 100 mile per hour pitch. Fuck that."

    6/13
Squat 430 3x5 (PR. Finally some sort of squat PR. RPE 11 on last set)
    Press 175x5,5,6 (RPE 8)

Then I had a softball doubleheader. We won 16-7 and 20-2. I think I was 6 for 6 with a sac fly. I did manage the obligatory pulled hamstring. No idea how long it will take to heal. I probably need to move squats to Mondays and deadlifts to Thursdays anyway. So what I might do is take a deload squat on Monday and try to be ready for a heavy pull next Thursday.

Powerlifting has ruined my ability to run or do anything remotely athletic. I used to be decently fast (4.6 40). Now I pull one every fucking time I run.

Thats why I just hit it over the fence everytime and then casually jog around the bases.

    Thanks, Mac.

Dana, we can't all be so awesome to do that EVERY time.
