7/25 That's right, Cassandra. 7/23 was about gettin' swole. Today was about getting strong.

Squat 455 3x3 (PR, easier than last week, but will prob move to 1 top set next week for the remainder of the cycle)
    Back off squat 355x5,5
    Press 210 3x3 (PR)

--Good day at the gym. Now I'd like to take this time to bitch about slow pitch softball. Thank god I have only three more years before I can play in the old men's 34+ baseball league. In softball, they lob the ball to you, and then you feel like an idiot every time you DON'T hit a homerun. In baseball, you feel good every time you get a hit, doesn't matter how big or how small. Softball is a game of negative incentive (i.e. don't not hit a homerun because you'll look like a jackass), whereas baseball is a game that spurs us on to greater heights and makes men of boys. Softball, on the other hand, emasculates.

You guys have rec baseball? That's nuts. What kind of bats do they use?

I say just hit a homerun everytime. Problem solved. Either that or play cabbage ball, LOLOLOL

Really strong work with 455 btw. That is some beast mode shit.

Yeah, I played an 18+ league a couple of years ago that you had to try out for and that was comprised of mostly current college players (after their season ended) and former college and minor league players. We used wooden bats (Old Hickory, a company here in Goodlettsville, TN, makes a mean maple bat and that's what I used). The pitching was tough, mostly 82-88 mph range. Occasionally some guys throwing low 90s. I hit .326 and lead off my last season, back when I was 180 and fast. But I had a huge slump towards the end of the season and figured it was time to leave it to the younger guys in that league. 28 was getting pretty damn old for it.

--Excellent day. In and out of the gym in 45 min.

    8/1
    Squat 465x3 (PR), 365x5,5,5
    Press (deload) 135x10,10,10
Plant with 70 lb db x 45 sec

-Squat felt like doo-doo. Then again, a guy I know says HAND and alles richtig after a day he fails an estimated PR by 65 lbs. So, given the fact that it was all off for me today, and I still can GM whatever I want, look out.

465x3? wow that's not bad for an old man. i remember the first time i squatted 465 for reps. it was last may and i had been training for about 9 months. but to do it at your age? that's pretty impressive.

Thanks, Tom. The crazy thing is I didn't even have to become a 250 lb fat ass to do it! As I'm sure you know from your recent 440x2 squat, squatting is much easier when you're fat.

It's like a reality show in here. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite logs.

    starting strength coach development program
hmm, that's a fair point except that i weighed ~220 at the time. i was even stronger at 250. but now that i think about it, i really could have saved myself the two long, looooong, months of dieting that it took to get back to 200 if i had just stayed skinny for half a decade instead.
