Somehow I managed to keep from reproducing, Patrick. No prowler work needed.

    8/23
Deadlift (hamstring rehab) 315 5x5 (couldn't have pushed any higher today but should be good to go heavy by next Friday)

    Press 180x5,5,8 (RPE 9), 135x10,10,10

    Db row 120x20

    Plank 90lbs on back x 45 sec

Squat 405x8 (could have done 10, not sure if a rep PR, but at least ties a rep PR)
    3 sec pause squat 325 3x5
Plank 90 lbs on back 2x40 sec

--Great day. Best my squat has felt in a long, long time. I have 2 more squat workouts until I start Smolov for my October meet prep. I really think I was pushing too damn close to failure every workout on my last few squat cycles. Consequently, I was overtrained with all the lethargy and depression that goes along with it. I've decided just to hit a top set the next couple of weeks at an RPE of 8-9 and then do some back off paused work. Between squatting 315x15 last week and 405x8 this week without busting my balls, I'm already starting to feel better in pretty much every way.

Nice work on the squat! I know what you mean about working a little too close to failure. The accumulated fatigue really starts to add up. Smolov should be interesting, I will keep an eye on how you are doing. Best of luck with it though! I hope you hit some nice PR's!

Glad to see you feeling good again man. I take it the hamstring is feeling better?

Are you running the full Smolov, or the jr. version? Are you concerned at all about how that will impact recovery, now that you are starting to feel recovered again?

    Thanks, ya'll.

Dana, the hammie feels pretty good. I plan to do the Smolov base mesocycle for my squat and Smolov Jr for my bench. I have another 2.5 weeks before it starts, so I should be good and fresh. Then it will be only 3 weeks of torture followed by a rest week and meet. I've run Smolov on my squat before, back when I high bar squatted, and hit a 35 lb PR with about 10 lbs left in the tank. I'm probably good for 505-510 in the gym right now and 520 or so at a meet. I'll base it off approx. 510 and hope to hit 550 at the meet. I'll base the bench off 350 and hope to hit 385. I will prob just try to pull what I did at the last meet (mid 6's).

    8/27
Bench 280x6 (RPE 9, foot slipped on 5th rep and made lift harder than it should've been)

Press (aiming for a sort of medium day since I went heavy on Friday and just benched) 165x5,5,8 (RPE 8)

    Pullups bw 5x12

--Again, trying to facilitate some recovery here. Ok day.

    8/30

Deadlift - 580x3 (smooth, RPE 9.5, couldn't have hit another full rep, but could've gotten close. Didn't get the shakes on my last rep like I do when it's an RPE 10. Happy with this since it was the goal for the day and felt about like expected)

    4" deficit deadlift - 225x5, 315x5, 405x5, 455x8 (RPE 9)

    Bench (recovery) 225 3x5

    Plank bw+100 x 30 sec

    Ab pulldowns 2x20

--Felt good today. Hamstring held up pretty well. Should be good to go ahead and sent in my meet entry tomorrow.

    Back off press sets 165x5,5,10

    starting strength coach development program
My girlfriend's cousin is starting at fullback for Louisville as a freshman and just had a good game. She says he's really into powerlifting, and his strength is probably a good reason why he's starting for a top 10 D1 school as a freshman without even having played HS football. She says he currently squats mid 6's, benches mid 4's, and pulls mid 7's. Here's a video of him pulling 700 at age 17 (I guess he was supposed to drop the weight since he was training at a crossfit facility and all...):
