Nice work Wolf,
Good to see you pushing your weights back up.
Rough volume day today. Didn't feel bad going in, but when I got to working weight, everything just felt heavy. Every set, every rep. One of those days.
Squat
45x5x3, 145x5, 235x3, 315x2, 380x5x5
Squat Notes: Tightness was inconsistent. No horrible reps, but not as many aces as I would like. ~5 mins rest, maybe 6 for the last set.
Press
45x5, 95x5, 135x3, 170x1, 193.75x5x3
Press Notes: After the first work set, I knew the next two would be a bitch. Grinded out last rep of set #2, and the last two reps of set #3. I think the last rep of set #3 took about 10 seconds. Felt like 225.
Deadlift
205x4, 315x2, 415x1, 485x5 - PR
DL Notes: Warmups felt heavy, even 205. Workset was harder and slower than I wanted, but somehow they all went up to lockout. My weakest point is right off the floor, the first few inches of the pull. All 5 reps were tough right there today. If I can get it past there, I can finish it, so I just willed them up. The time is coming to switch to rack pulls and haltings again.
General Notes: Had to wait ~20 minutes for some dude to finish his BB Rows and then weird version of presses to get a rack today. This should have pissed me off and lit my fire, but it was long enough that it was just annoying, more than anything else. Warning, you are about to read the Wolf Broken Record: WHY IS THERE NOT A GOD DAMN SINGLE GOOD PLACE TO LIFT ANYWHERE NEAR ME?!?!
Wolf, I can relate. The silver lining about leaving NYC was having good places to lift. Whenever I think about life in NY I remember how I used to jump through hoops and travel 90 minutes each way to have a decent gym to lift in. Even that was far from ideal.
Congrats on the Deadlift!!!!! Beast.
I hate waiting.
It's figured out! It's overcoming the obstacles that's the issue.
Exactly. I remember well the optimistic days of my youth (aka last year) when I, too, thought I could quickly figure this out. Then I found out about the layers upon layers of NYC government bureaucracy.
I forgot to add that I did take some advantage of the time waiting to re-acquaint myself with the power snatch. Which I have coached, but not done myself in quite a while. So it wasn't a total loss.
Strong work. Seems as though that injury is becoming a distant memory.
Nice deadlift PR, glad to see you hitting heavy weights again.
