The best part of training in the morning is that you don't have to do it later. But you still have to do it in the morning.

I'm just not a morning person. It would be logistically a lot easier to train in the morning and have it done with, but I generally don't do as well in the morning. Should be back to normal next week with afternoon training.

A little weary from an early morning wakeup and travel, but was able to get some good stuff done today. Right low back and deep glute area were cranky all weekend but mostly better by today. But my right lumbar and thoracic erectors were hyperactive during and after squatting today in a way they haven't been for a long time. Having it fire up all the sudden like that makes me a bit apprehensive, I don't want to deal with that again but hopefully it doesn't portend a trend.

    Squat (belt + XXL SBDs)
    6x6: 355 - loose belt @6; 385 @6.5; 405 @7; 385 @7; 365 @7; 355 - loose belt @7
Notes: Other than a bit of knee twinging and the erector thing, these were pretty solid and easy.

    Bench Press (loose belt)
    305x5 @6.5; 327.5x5 @7.5; 342.5x5 @8.75; 320x5 @8
    2 Ct Paused Bench (Beltless)
    300x3x3 @8,8,8.5
Notes: Elbows flared too much on the top set, but 342.5x5 is, IIRC, only 7.5 lbs less than my best set of five in the bench. I'm very confident there have been several times when my 5RM would've been more than 350 had I tried it, but as it stands, I think my 5 rep PR is 350, done after just a warm-up over a year ago. So doing this, after a couple other heavy fives, with no handoff, was nice.

    Chins
    BWx5
    +8kg x5x4
    BWx8
    Notes: Solid.

    Power Clean
    95x2, 115x2, 135x2, 155x2, 175x2, 185x2
Notes: Light. Just some practice. But after the squatting, not as easy as otherwise would've been.

Video of the 342.5x5 bench including full set-up. Sound is cut off till the end because it was a copyrighted song or some such. Then Toto's Africa came on and someone thought it was amusing that I was lifting heavy to Toto. Which is kinda was. Not that I picked the music.

    Squat Warmup - naked knees
    45x6x2, 135x5, 185x3, 225x3

    Power Clean Warmup
    135x1+2x2, 155x1+2, 175x1+2, 195x1+2, 215x1+1, 230x1+1
Notes: Added a clean pull to start each set. Easy, though they didn't feel snappy.

Snatch Grip DL - 3" belt + straps
    405x3, 435x3, 465x3 @6, 485x3 @7
Notes: Didn't feel great today, had some trouble feeling out the right starting position, but went up OK.

    Press
    185x5 @7 - loose belt, no wraps
    195x5 @7.5; 205x5 @8 - belt + wraps
    Dead Stop Strict Press
    175x4x2 @8,8
Notes: Dead stops were harder than anticipated. Dropped a rep from each set of these for better recovery for Thursday heavy benching.

    Ring Rows
    BWx8x2
Notes: Did a set of 5 chins and that pec area that bothered me for three months felt a bit irritated so I played it safe and just did some ring rows. Which, btw, are harder when you weigh 275 than when you weigh less.

    C2 Erg - 30/1:25 x8
    Paces:1:52.7, 1:41.3, 1:38.6, 1:36.1, 1:38.0, 1:38.0, 1:43.4, 1:32.5
Notes: Was pretty tired by this point, wasn't going to blow through any of these at a super fast pace.

I didn't know you were a man bun connoisseur, Will.

Well I have a lot of varied interests. I try to learn a little about everything which means I wind up knowing not too much about anything. From what I can tell 2014 was the year of the low-bun. I'm seeing high buns now. IMO it's already played out but it seems to work for you.

Then you're paying a lot more attention to this trend than I am. I just decided to let my hair grow out, for no particular reason, and so towards the end of last year I had to start tying it up to keep it out of my face when lifting. Suddenly my friends are talking about my man bun this and man bun that. I have a little fun with it but really don't do anything other than try get the hair out of my face, or off my neck when it's hot.

Hey Wolf, I have a question on snatch deadlifts. As the bar passes the knee, do you try to stay over the bar a little longer or do you try to pull yourself upright directly after the knee? I've been messing around with these and am having some trouble feeling the lift out.
