About 2 months out from surgery now? All seems pretty normal I would think recovery-wise. Got that bench over two plates for reps. Gainz

Ya, just passed the 2 month mark. The left inguinal is a little slow and stubborn to heal compared to the right inguinal and ventral, but it's all definitely improving little by little.

Got the sense that the RDLs were what was irritating the repair a bit, so skipped them today.

Got my MRI report back. I've shared a lot of training successes and frustrations, along with details of some of my injuries, in this very publicly accessible long. After my recent surgery and seeming frustration after frustration, I'm feeling a little more private so am going to be spare on the details, at least for now. If I feel like sharing when in a different frame of mind, I will do so.

I have a structural issue in my knees. It's fairly rare, and is even more unusual when it occurs without any specific traumatic event or sudden mechanism of injury. To have it in both knees in basically the same place, without that causal traumatic event or mechanism, is essentially equivalent to winning the lottery, except in reverse. Maybe being struck by lightning is a better analogy.

To quote Dr. Petrizzo, who I shared the results with:
You are the poster child for idiopathic musculoskeletal injuries.
Which means, in other words, that I make no sense and Wolf's Disease is real.

Anyway, I have one or two other people from the SS medical/rehab community and my other personal connections I will be speaking with about it, as well as the orthopedist who initially went to and who ordered the MRI. So there is yet much to learn and discuss. It sounds like there are some non-surgical interventions that may be worth trying, and if they don't work, some surgical procedures that may help, but are not easy, not guaranteed, and not slam dunks.

In the meantime, I'll continue improving from my hernia surgery and doing upper body work, and any lower body stuff I can do as best I can. The quest to bench 500 and press 300 and then 315 will resume, as hernia repair healing allows. On the lower body front, it seems light Goblet squats are tolerated, along with KB Swings and RDLs, the latter two being limited by hernia repair rate but hopefully increasing as that recedes.

    Thanks Neil.

    In the meantime, training resumes.

    Bench Press
    135x8, 185x5, 225x5, 265x5, 285x5x2, 255x5
    Squat
    BWx5x2
    +12kg x7
    +16kg x7x3
Notes: Starting to rebuild volume tolerance a bit. Tried a belt today for the first time since surgery, my 3", and wore it one hole looser than I normally would. The ventral repair, which is generally healing well, was a wee bit sensitive during and immediately after, but that went away quickly. I am leaning towards waiting to try the belt again in a week or two.

Knees can feel it during the squats but it's lower level discomfort, not bad pain, so it's tolerable.

    Chins
    BWx5x5 + Pullups BW x4x2 = 33
    RDLs
    45x10, 75x8, 95x8x3
Notes: Feels good to be ramping up chins again, and RDLs felt fine on the left inguinal repair at this lighter weight.

    KB Swings
    16kg x15x4
    DB Curls
    40x8, 40x10

    Bench Press
    225x10x3
    Squat
    BWx7x3, 16kg x7, 20kg x7x2
Notes: Bench was pretty easy, a little burn on the last rep or two of the third set. #datpumptho

    RDL
    45x10, 75x8 95x8x3
    Chins
    BWx5x3
    Pullups
    BWx5x1

    Press
    45x5x2, 75x5x2, 95x5x2
    KB Swing
    20kg x10x4

    BB Curl
    45x8, 75x8, 95x8
Notes: These still kinda bother my wrists and forearms so will probably stick to the DBs.

    starting strength coach development program
    Bench Press
    135x5, 185x5, 225x5, 265x5, 295x5, 315x2 - paused, 275x5x2
    Squat
    BWx8x2, 16kg x8, 20kg x8x3
Notes: BP still feels slow but moves OK enough. Knees don''t love squats but they're tolerable.

    RDL
    45x10, 75x8, 95x8, 105x8x2
    Chins
    BWx5, BWx6x4, then Pullups BWx4x2 = 37

    Press
    45x5x2, 75x5x2, 95x5x2, 100x5x3
    KB Swing
    16kg x15x5
Notes: 20kg swings seemed a bit much so scaled back and just added some reps and height to the swings.

    Standing EZ Curl French Press
    17x10 47x10, 57x10 - easy
