Excited for it! I have some still unknown schedule things coming up, so I haven't yet decided when I'm gonna come off this lighter training schedule and ratchet it back up again - but I'd like to do two peaking blocks this year of at least 10 weeks each. I think I can hit some lifetime 1RMs even with just one good one, if I can get in two, and they both go well, I'm really excited about where my numbers could end up after that. But that's all speculation for now. What's fun and cool is having made enough improvements that I can even set some higher rep PRs or approach old ones, in the off season with no particular peaking or tapering, and on a whim when I feel like it as opposed to all planned out in advance with the prior week's training meant to facilitate it.

    Bench Press
    5x5 @135, 185, 225, 255, 275
Notes: All easy, just getting in one bench workout this week. My left pec has been irritated for a while now, up in the area that's been tweaked before - so took some time away from bench to let it cool down. I still felt it a tiny bit here, so will just do one easy, lighter bench workout next week as well.

    Power Clean
    7x3 @135, 185, 225, 245, 255, 245, 225
Notes: Not bad. A few bad reps here and there but not bad overall.

    Lat Pulldowns: Neutral grip
    135x8, 160x8x2
Notes: Though secondarily, these can contribute to the pec irritation thing - not as much as chins, but a little. They don't set it off, but they do seem to help keep it irritated if it's already irritated. So also stopped these for a couple weeks and will bring them back in slowly.

    Press: Belt + wraps
    250x5 @7.5
    225x5
Notes: 250 felt harder than it looked so I'm going by bar speed here. This is the most I've ever pressed for a set of 5 outside a meet prep or peaking block. I did do 250x5x5 in December, 2018 - a PR I've not since matched, and it was hard AF - but on just a ho-hum off season training day, the most I've done before today was 245x5. So this was cool in a very small way.

    Deadlift: 4" blocks
    600x1 @6
Notes: Even given that this was from 4", I don't think I've ever pulled 600 so easily outside of meet prep / peaking block style training. Doing this in the off season, coupled with the easy 250x5 press today, the 485x10 DL and 220x10 press a week ago, the 635x3 and 350x10 bench 2 months ago. I'm feeling good about what's gonna happen when I ramp up the training again.

The good news: I set a little power clean rep PR.

The bad news: a 45 lb plate dropped onto my toe and while it doesn't seem to be as bad as it could've been, I'll probably take Friday off. Hopefully will be able to resume fairly normally by Monday. Considering I've been a regular at gyms for 20 years, it's amazing this is the first and only time this has happened. It was a thick rubber bumper, and fell from about 6 inches - if it was a metal plate that fell from full height, I'd probably be much worse off. So will have to keep an eye on it to make sure, but I think it'll work itself out given some time.

    Power Clean
    135x3, 185x3, 225x3, 245x3, 265x3, 275x3 - PR
Notes: 275x3 is a nice plate milestone. It's a PRino in that I'm pretty sure I've been capable of it for a while, just never did it, but those are more fun and exciting when they're plate milestones like 275 is.

What really excited me about this, however, is that I did it only 2 days after pulling 600. Usually after heavy DLs, my power cleans aren't very good or snappy for 3-4 days or more (an effect that I think is at least partially responsible for some olympic lifting coaches thinking that "heavy deadlifts make you slow."). So popping this off - fairly easily too, I probably could've done 285x3 had I gone up - only 48 hours after pulling 600 tells me something. Especially for off season, not peaked.

    Bench Press
    135x5, 225x5, 275x5, 315x5, 275x5
Notes: Left pec felt much better than last week - almost no noticeable discomfort at all. I hate that what it takes to make this recurring irritation go away is time away from benching, but it's proven repeatedly to be so. It first popped up 6 years ago, and it's been pretty much the same every time - the only thing that makes it stop is a period of not benching. Being stubborn about myself, it took me a while to come to grips with that but that's how it be.

Toe seems not serious, but some discoloration, still hurts to put extra pressure on it like running - so not doing anything serious today. I think it'll be ready to pull by Monday, but we'll see.

    Seated DB Press
    85x8, 11, 8
Notes: Got carried away on that second set.

Then did some light cable rows, and one set of 145x30 bodybuilder style barbell rows.

When I took the dog out this morning, it was 7 degrees out with a feel temp of -7. Now at noon it's 14 with a feel temp of 1. I may just push today's workout outdoors in the garage with no heat to tomorrow when it'll be a balmy 25.
