Enough booze, and they all have talent.

It was frustrating to lose yet another training week. This time to illness. I look back and see I essentially haven't made any progress in any lift in a month (except bench press, which itself is still only RE-gaining strength I lost due to injury). Some minor injuries, a couple bad training days, and an illness - and poof, a month of potential progress is gone. Frustrating.

This week and next are both short training weeks as well, only 2x/each. Today was yet another "get back into it" workout. I should be able to push harder Thursday, then hopefully use next week's Tues/Fri to get back to where I was before. Then, it's ON ladies and gents, as it will be 7 training weeks away from what I'm looking to for my next meet. I'm shooting for a minimum 1515, with a 1560 as a stretch goal. So I better step it the fuck up.

I think the exhaustion of traveling and the wedding this weekend delayed my recovery, but I feel OK today and should be 100% by next training day, Thursday.
    Today's Work

    Squat
    45x5x2, 135x5, 225x5, 275x5, 315x5, 365x5, 405x3
Notes: Ramping 5's and then one heavier three. All were fine, used the opportunity to focus on form, as I've been reverting to some excess knee slide - probably in response to the back tweak, just like last time. 365 and 405 were harder than usual, but not too hard, I didn't push anywhere near 100%. Expected after returning from an illness lay-off.

    Bench Press
    Warm-ups to 317.5 x 2+3,5,5
Notes: I gambled here and it seems to have paid off. Despite illness, I thought I had enough reserves to nail this and I did. First set I felt a left hamstring cramp coming on after two reps so I racked it, shook it out, and then immediately continued. Logging it as 2+3, but counting it as a set of 5, as there was almost no break. Next bench workout will equal my pre-shoulder injury PR for 3x5. I don't feel as strong as I did then, but I'm getting the #'s.

    Deadlift
    135x5, 225x3,315x2, 365x1, 415x1, 455x5
Notes: Felt harder than it should have, but no real problem with the reps.

In the past, when I've gone through frustrating periods like this, PRs & continued progress usually came around the corner. Very much hoping that occurs here as well. I will probably switch to a four-day split pretty soon as well. I think the volume on volume day with a total body lift is just too much beating down at this point. I'll have to make some scheduling adjustments to do so, but I think I can make it happen.

Les, if you're reading this, you may now officially post kittyporn everywhere.

Let's be positive and assume this is going to be the case again!

I'll work my ass off to make that happen, but today was another rough day. Left hip flexor all of the sudden felt very inflamed - it has been fine for weeks, and was fine the previous couple days after squatting Monday. Suddenly today it's flaring up. Twingy right at the bottom point of a squat where you need to stay tightest, just like it started doing about 7 weeks ago. At least this time it's not combined with any knee pain on the opposite side.

Between that and seemingly forgetting how to do a squat, and my hamstrings deciding they don't want to be strong anymore, I don't know what's going on. At least I have the bench press.

    Squat
    45x5x2, 135x5, 225x5, 315x5, 365x5, 405x5, 425x1
Notes: Planned on 425x1, 445x1, 465x1, but 405 was much harder than should have been and 425 felt like 500. So called it. The twinging hip flexor + forgetting how to squat really busted me up. I will bathe in Vitamin I over the next few days, and pray to the Barbell Gods that I remember how to squat come next week.

    Bench Press
    Warm-ups to 320x5x3 - ties PR for 3x5
Notes: I didn't properly prepare for first set so it was a little slow and iffy, but sets 2 and 3 were solid and pretty fast. I feel pretty good about where my bench is now. Should be good for a touch-n-go 400 or more before summer's end. So at least there's that.

Power Clean & Press (warm-up for DL, and to get some cleans & presses in this week)
    45x5, 135x3, 165x3, 195x2
Notes: Every rep a power clean and a press. It has been so long since I actually pressed off a clean in any way (press, push press, or jerk) that I really was rusty when it came to transitioning grip from the clean to the press. Weird. Ended up pressing with a wider grip than usual.

    Deadlift
    275x1, 365x1, 455x1, 505x1
Notes: Planned to go to 545x1, but 505 felt heavier than I expected 545 to, so called it there. Ever since I missed that 5th rep @ 525 a month ago, my hamstrings have felt super weak, like they forgot how to tense and contract hard. It's so weird because 520x5 was fairly easy, even after volume squats and whatever pressing I did. It's like something happened to my body that week, and squats and especially pulls have sucked since then. My hamstrings felt like they're at the end of their rope at 505, which is just so odd considering the weights I've pulled recently.

You obviously know a lot more about programming than I do, but any thoughts about a deload. Sounds like your CNS is a little jacked up.

I've thought about this. The only reason I haven't done it yet is because the various things that have popped up over the last 5 weeks or so have given me plenty of inadvertent deloads. I'd have to go back through my log to check exactly, but in the last 5 weeks, I think I've only had two volume days (only one with heavy pulling) and 3 intensity days, one of which I only did 2/5 of my planned squat reps.

It might be, however, that the recovery necessary didn't happen because my resources were dedicated to recovery from the small injuries & minor illness I had.

I'm still planning as of now to do the meet in September, and will start a few steps back and work my way back up. I may not hit the 1560 that I had planned as a realistic goal prior to all this happening, but I need to get back at a meet again.

RPS will be back on LI in November. You should be all healed up and hitting some big numbers again by then. Just throwing it out there.
