Another not so horrible UB day today. I don't know that it felt better than Monday, but certainly no worse, which is a good thing. Previously, training sessions would often make it worse for a couple days. Baby steps.

    Press
    190x5x3, 155x10
Notes: First set was a bit soft, then came at it harder (that's what she said?). No problems here.

I've been feeling 'off' in my timing of the Press 2.0 ever since I stopped my normal press training regimen 10 weeks ago when the shoulder issue started. I tried something new today which seemed to work well. I'm still doing the "Press 1.5" for my sets of 5 - 1st and last rep done 2.0 style, with the middle three done with the stretch reflex. But on all 2.0 reps, I'm beginning my reach more slowly, then going faster as I reach, kind of like a power clean being squeezed off the floor then accelerated through the pull. It worked well for me both in terms of timing and not cutting the reach short. Gonna stick with it for now.

    Bench Press
    275x5,5,8
Notes: Still gas in the tank, erectors still having some trouble adjusting to bench press again. Shoulder felt these just the tiniest bit during afterwards, but not bad at all and went away.

    Chins
    11,10,10,10

    Hammer Strength Plate Loaded Row
    180/side (four 45s) x 10 x 2

Standing EZ Curl Bar OH Tri Extensions
    Bar + 70 x 12

2nd to last workout with Sarah today. Booooooo.

Switched my coaching schedule around so I could train in the morning today, so I could get a last lift in with Sarah before she departs. I generally hate training in the morning, but at least this wasn't early morning. Still, was definitely worth it. Though a short-lived partnership, Sarah was the best training partner I've had, and the only consistent one in all the years I've been doing SS style training. It was immeasurably valuable and I will miss it, and her, a lot.

    Squat
    470x3x2
Notes: Felt pretty good about these. Haven't watched the vid yet, but other than the last rep of the second set, I thought they were pretty good.

    Deadlift
    535x5 - 10# PR
    1" Deficit DL
    425x5x2

Notes: Not as clean or as smooth as Our Locomotive last week, but still plenty of gas in the tank here. I didn't squeeze up as solidly as I have been, but there don't seem to be any ill effects.

My grip was just shit today though. My hook on the left hand wasn't strong so I had to switch to a mixed grip for the 5th rep. For my deficit pulls, I stayed at 425; 20 lbs more than my last deficit pulls a couple weeks ago, but the same weight I used for haltings last week. Though my grip was a weak point, I held on to all of them DOH and beltless no problem. Today, I could barely DOH even one rep at 425. I switched to the hook for the next 4 reps on both sets. My grip and thumbs weren't even loving holding the rower handle during conditioning, and my thumbs are still sensitive and hurt a bit now, 2 hours later. Weird. Small price to pay for today's lifts though, no big deal.

    C2 Erg
    30s Row / 90s Rest x 8
    Paces: 1:49.4, 1:39.3, 1:34.3, 1:33.1, 1:33.1, 1:32.5, 1:34.3, 1:26.7

Nice work and congrats on the rep PR. I knew this was a good day to wear my Wolf tribute workout shirt.

Don't KONG your deadlift. Lockout will sneak up on you and bite ya in d erse if you lack discipline in the beginning. Don't say I didn't warn ya.

Congrats on the DL PR, Wolf. Also, your squats looked very solid. Awesome job all around.

It's not lockout I'm worried about, it's my back. Anything I can get about 4" off the ground, I can finish; I'm weak off the floor. I just don't want to tweak or worse my back again. Looking at it again, my back doesn't round during the lift, I maintain the squeeze I set pretty well. I just need to squeeze a bit more and set better.

Thanks Dr. P. It was a good day. Now I need to keep it up for a while without any stupid setbacks and get the numbers I should have had last year.

It's very minor, it's just more watching it so that it doesn't get softer as the numbers go up...

And you will. Last year is past, this year is yours.

Nice lifting my jew-bro. I'm really psyched for you that you are PR'ing again on the important lifts. I knew that bench specialist crap wouldn't last! ;-)

Take some geezling wisdom Wolf: forget about what "could/should/might" have been and forget about last year. I've only been lifting for 3.5 years but I've had more setbacks than I can remember and frankly, they are unavoidable and part of the whole thing. Bo Jackson might have been the best athlete in history but the dude had some bad luck. Dan Marino should have won a super bowl. A-Rod could have not been a complete asshole. (Had to throw in a joke there).

We gotta take our knocks and do the best we can. At least we weren't sent to the desert, forced to lose weight and made to do shift work like our boy Mac.
