Yesterday's travel to Toronto was literally the stupidest thing ever. It's a 350 mile direct flight that takes around an hour. I got 4 on-time confirmations from the airline as late as 1:15pm, but at 2, upon arrival, was told it was cancelled, as were the rest of the flights for the day to Toronto from both LGA and JFK. And nothing available Thursday till 7:30pm. Unacceptable. So I ended up flying to Dallas to connect to a flight to Toronto, spending 6 hours on planes instead of about 1, and arriving at my hotel after 1am, instead of around 6pm. Also, the front desk thought it would be a good idea to call me at 7am letting me know about an issue with the hotel reservation. Where is the politeness, Canadians?!?!?! Anyway, yesterday sucked, eating was haphazard and I got no sleep. The sacrifices we make to do these seminars, you kids just don't appreciate!

Today was still an awesome lifting session at Element Crossfit, however.

    Press
    245x1, 260xf, 260x1 - PR, 245x1
    Notes:
245 was super fast, so I went to 260. I wasn't focused enough and failed it right at the top of my head, where I always fail a press. Rested 5-6, regrouped, and nailed it. Then one more at 245.

    The first rep @ 245:

    260 press:

    Bench Press
    348x3x6
    - first rep paused on every set
Notes: The last rep got real slow and grindy for the last couple sets, but the paused work was definitely helpful. Alex helped make sure I paused long enough to be legit.

Vid of the 2nd set, IIRC:

    Chins
    12,12,10,10,10,10
Notes: One of the crossfit coahces here accused me of kipping chin-ups. I. Do. Not. Kip. Like House Greyjoy, except with chins and pull-ups. I think she just didn't believe a 265 lb person could do a set of chins that fast. Come on, lady!

Alt DB Curlz for the Gurlz
    60x8, 55x8

Then to Burrito Boyz afterwards. Not as flavorful as Chipotle, but much, much meater (that's what she said).

There's a guy at my gym, about 250 lbs, whom I've seen kip. The pull-up bar shakes and shivers in fear.

Mixed day today. Recaptured confidence on squats, but pulls were a bit rough.

    Squat
    495x1, 515x1, 535x1-PR, 475x3
    Notes:
495 was fast, 515 halted and stuck at my sticking point and got me worried. I decided to add another 20 and just attack the damn thing ferociously. Killed it. Then backed down to 475 for a triple, which was solid. Overall today's squatting, my last real heavy work before the meet in 9 days, restored a lot of my confidence in my squat, which had fallen ever since the bumper plate situation began a couple weeks ago.

Video of 535. No comparison to 530.5 on Saturday, WORLDS better:

    Deadlift
    135x5x2, 225x3, 315x2, 405x1, 455x1x2, 315x5x2
Notes: Still testing out the back here. Not as good as I'd hoped for. Felt fine through 405, but at 455, it was noticeable. It didn't hurt, but I just couldn't quite get and keep it set hard like I normally can at that weight, and it was much slower off the floor. Backed off to 315 to get some more appropriately weighted and blood flushing work to the area.

At this point I just have to hope 9 days is enough time for it to heal. It's only 6 days since the tweak, so it could very well be fine by then. I'm also not sure if doing a modified Starr protocol will be helpful, or if the promoted healing will be off-set by handling so many light sets and reps that it messes with my ability to pull a few really heavy reps in 9 days' time.

My planned openers before things started falling apart were 500 squat, 360 bench, 600 deadlift. Given how things have gone the past few weeks, I'm considering lowering all of them: the squat and bench slightly, and the DL perhaps more than slightly. But I have several more days before I need to submit openers, so we'll see how things go.

Thanks, Steve. It definitely wasn't an @10, if you know what I mean. Ah, how I love lifter jokes.

HA! I have this nascent idea for a Russian humor video I'd like to shoot with Campitelli called "2 Spoons, 1 Borscht."

You should film it with a dash cam for that authentic Russian feel.
