OK, first day back since the cyst removal and getting the stitches in. 5 total days off and treading carefully re: not ripping the wound open, so just testing the waters today. It was a successful test.

Notes: All felt fine. I've been having some right lower back tightness and discomfort (which has gotten worse, if anything, during my recent time off). Wondering if it's related to my recent right glute twinginess. I rolled out the back extra before starting and glute was very cooperative. So maybe.

Overall I felt better at the end of the workout than when I started. Not just because it was the first time in a month where I got under the bar knowing I'd be able to train consistently for the foreseeable future, but literally physically felt better. Back has been aggravating me a bit, and it felt completely 100% fine after lifting. It's not been pain, just tightness and low level discomfort but all that was gone after warming up and training. Even light.
The stitches are in for another full week, till next Monday, so I won't be going hard this week. It'll be a slow ramp-up, which will pick up a bit more steam next week when the stitches are out. I'm still hoping to do the American Open in December, but will depend how quickly I can ramp back up. It doesn't make sense to go to all the trouble of traveling and dealing with the size of a big national meet if I'm not on track to PR. We'll see. Too soon to tell.

Thanks, Is. Added some load today and rested less (even though rest yesterday was already very short), but sweat less and overall felt less 'winded' today. It's astounding, when you think about it, how quickly the baseline conditioning comes and goes. Weights felt easy both days, but the heart rate response, amount of sweat, and recovery between sets was quite different yesterday to today. I basically did every set today with the only rest being the changing of the plates, with heavier weights, and still felt easier.

Stitches come out Monday, so unless I decide to train over the weekend, this will be my last day purposely holding back. I won't attempt to jump right back to previous working weights and will take some time to ramp back up, but it'll be nice to put some weight back on the bar. My body also feels good. Other than some minor lingering tightness in my left lumbar area, my aches and pains - the ones that you tend to always carry around when you're lifting heavy 4x/week every week - are either gone or significantly reduced. Feel ready to ramp back up and then set some new PRs.

I've been meaning to ask you for more thoughts on that Kirk Karwoski quote. Being that angry all the time, and wanting to be so, seems like a bad idea.

I understand anger. I've felt very angry with the world. It's a very all consuming thing. It'll totally engulf you if you let it. At the same time, I can't comprehend walking around angry like that almost constantly. I can't imagine being able to summon that anger with little effort just so I can pour it into lifting a barbell. And, he must have a supply of it on hand in order to make use of it. To keep a supply, he must keep it burning. I can't comprehend maintaining that anger on purpose and carrying it around inside of me all the time. It sounds unhealthy and dangerous.
You don't seem to have that kind of anger, or at least you don't present yourself that way. Do you comprehend what he's describing?
