I have decided to abandon my old alias of JT in MD in an effort to not hide behind my initials. I've also decided to share my training log so everyone can see nothing special at all... Every time I find myself progressing nicely, something happens or something changes which tends to set me back.

A little about me: 29 years old, 5'8"/195.

    Best gym lifts:
    Squat 405 x 1
    Bench 300 x 1
    Deadlift 455 x 1
    OH Press 170 x 1

    Best competition lifts (194.5 lbs):
3/31/12 @ USAPL Equniox Raw Open (Columbia, MD)
    Squat 375 x 1
    Bench 276 x 1
    Deadlift 474 x 1

This put me 7/17 in the 198 weight class and 15th (still 198) out of the last 5 meets in MD.

Anyway, I work in Project Management (long hours) on a busy site with some manual labor involved. Add my 3 month old son and my very busy 2.5 year old son, and I find myself constantly exhausted.

With my schedule, I've been able to keep with Texas Method for Bench (Tu/Sat), 3x5 for OH Press (Thurs), and DL 1x/week (typically Tues). However, Squats are steadily regressing because I only seem to manage 1x/week. Based on that, I chose 5/3/1, which I am again disappointed with. On SS, I was at 330 x 5 x 3 but then started this job and needed to adjust because I couldn't consistently get in two hard Squat workouts/week. I am considering trying 3x5 just 1x/week to see if I can manage to progress. 5/3/1 just never has provided me with the volume I need to progress.

So here we are.. I hope to at least remain consistent with updating this log. When the next meet rolls around in Maryland, I'll hope to at least be at a point where I can improve upon my last meet numbers.

    Tuesday 6/12/12
    Bench 240 x 5 x 5

    Thursday 6/14/12
    OH Press 145 x 5 x 3
    Deadlift 375 x 5

    Saturday 6/16/12
    Squat (5/3/1) 5 x 235, 270, 310 - last set was a grind for whatever reason
    Bench 265 x 4, 225 x 10

Bench 241.25 x 5 x 5 - these were actually easy. I had sustained 2.5 lb jumps for awhile, but based on the difficulty of last week's 240, I opted to move to smaller jumps.

The plan was to Press and Power Clean. That was the plan... didn't happen. I'll keep my Saturday plan: Squat and Bench Press, and I'll add Power Cleans. Sunday will be a quick Press workout. Regarding Squats on Saturday... Squats have been my biggest disappointment in the past month after changing jobs. I tried 5/3/1 and maybe I'm impatient but it's just too slow and too little volume for me. I'm going to try 3x5 1x/week and see how that goes. Saturday I'll just put 300 on and work up from there... My last successful 3x5 was at 330 about 1.5 months ago, so in a few short weeks, hopefully I'll be back up there.

Squat 300 x 5 x 3 - these felt pretty good. Started light just to give myself a day to get used to the volume again.

Bench 275 x 2 - I missed my target on my chest on the third rep and couldn't recover from the crappy angle I gave myself. Otherwise, would've been easy.

Bodyweight is down to 190, which was not intentional and quite a surprise. I don't get to eat consistently at work and am constantly running around, so I'm sure that's the reason.

Bench 242.5 x 5 x 5.. last set was tough, but still fairly easy.

Deadlift 385 x 5, belt, alternate grip... pretty smooth. Last rep was shaky.

Squat 305 x 5 x 3 - these were mostly easy.. only made difficult because I had a long few days at work.. mostly on my feet.

    Wednesday 7/4/12

Squat 310 x 5 x 3 - again mostly easy. Not as easy as I'd like it to be.

    Press 150 x 5 x 3 - last two sets I threw on a belt... helped keep everything tight.

Weekend at the beach threw off my routine, but nevertheless:

    Squat 315 x 5 x 3

    Bench 242.5 x 5 x 3

Neither were particularly easy, but got 'em done.
