While decreasing my volume and frequency over the summer definitely helped my back and hip calm down, my strength steadily backslid. Hopefully this LP helps get things back on track. This is what I did this past week:

    9/22

    Squat - 45x15x2, 135x5, 185x3, 225x2, 275x1, 315x5x3
    Press - 45x5, 95x5, 135x3, 165x1, 185x5x3
    Deadlift - 135x5, 225x3, 315x2, 405x5

    9/24

    Squat - 45x15x2, 135x5, 185x3, 225x2, 275x1, 335x5x3
    Bench - 45x15, 135x5, 185x3, 225x2, 255x1, 285x5x3
    Chins - BWx12, 12, 11

    9/26

    Squat - 45x15x2, 135x5, 185x3, 225x2, 275x1, 315x1, 355x5x3
    Press - 45x5, 95x5, 135x3, 165x1, 187x5x3
    P. Clean - 135x3, 185x2, 225x3x5

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend.

Good idea John. I ran into a similar problem about a year ago. I really hadn't changed too much with my lifting, except for some tweaks here and there, and I was steadily getting worse. It was kind of depressing. The weights felt heavy and I was pretty confused as to where to go in order to make progress. Wasn't sure whether I needed more of one thing or less of another. So I took it all back and ran a LP out for as long as I could and treated myself as a novice. It gave me a lot of new perspective and helped me to decide where to go with everything.

I'm sure you're headed in the right direction. Good luck!

Due to the fact that I have no plans to compete anytime soon and my training has been total garbage for the past several months, I didn't think it was really appropriate for me to continue to post in the "Competitive Lifter's" forum. I started a new log in the intermediate section:

    John Petrizzo's Training Log

If I get things turned around at some point and become motivated to compete, I will begin posting here again.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to check out my log here over the past few years. I really appreciate it.

First time posting here in awhile, but I figured I would bring this log back since my training is going well and I finally competed again this weekend for the first time in about a year. I have been working with Andy again since October and he has gotten my training back on track. During that time I have been logging in the intermediate lifter's forum:

    John Petrizzo's Training Log

This weekend I competed at the Starting Strength Challenge at CrossFit Gantry. I had a great time lifting with Niki, Alex, and Tom as well as a few of the other forum members who were there. Similarly, it was great to see Dwayne, Chad, and Adam who all came out to watch. Here is how things went:

    Squat - 45x15x2, 135x5, 185x3, 225x2, 275x2, 335x1, 385x1, 425x1, 475, 505, 525 (PR)
    Press - 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x3, 165x2, 185x1, 215x1, 235, 250, 255 (PR)
    Deadlift - 135x5, 225x3, 315x2, 405x2, 495x1, 550, 580, 600 (PR)

Last year I squated 523 at a USAPL meet, so 525 is not any significant PR, but this was definitely the lightest this kind of weight has ever felt on my back. I probably should have taken 530. Presses went really well. 255 is a five pound PR, so I was happy with that. 600 is the most I have ever pulled on a stiff bar, and similar to the squat, I was surprised at how relatively easy it felt. Rori encouraged me to take 610 and I probably should have.

Thanks to Dwayne, Chad, and Adam for coming out to the meet yesterday and congrats to Niki, Alex, and Tom who all had great meets!

Dude lets gravity do absolutely no work for him. Completely lowered and buried 525. Great job John. Thanks for having us on your team!

    Yay, your log is back!!

Thanks for having us on your team. We need to find a meet that uses a scoring system biased towards not tiny people.

It was awesome watching you lift. Congrats on the PRs and going 9/9! Here's the video of your deadlift including the sound effects that I hear during your set-up.
