    Squat - 45x20, 135x5, 185x3, 225x2, 295x1, 325x5x3
    Bench - 45x5, 135x5, 185x3, 205x1, 235x5x3
    Deadlift - 185x3, 225x1, 275x1, 335x1, 385x5

Everything felt good today. Bar speed on my squats was a little slower than I would have liked but nothing too bad.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

    Tues 10/16

    Squat - 45x5x2, 135x5, 185x3, 225x2, 275x1, 305x1, 330x5x3
    Press - 45x5, 95x5, 135x2, 162.5x5x3
    Chins - BWx13, 9, 7

No complaints today. My second work set of squats was a little off. I felt like my knees and hips were unlocking at separate times but overall my bar speed was better than on Sunday. Presses felt okay, definitely getting better at the 3rd edition press.

    Training Update:

This week has been a bit of a mess since the hurricane. Still no power and gas is very, very scarce here on Long Island. I feel grateful that my friends and family made it through the storm safely although there are many, many people here who literally lost everything, homes, cars, gone. I hope everyone who has been affected by the storm is doing what they can to get by. It will be a long road to recovery.

One of the only places in my area that actually has power is a local gym so I am thankful to be getting my workouts in although it has been hard to get quality food. Lots of PB&J this week. Overall I am pretty happy with how my lifts have gone as this is my last full week of training before my meet on November 11 which as of now is still scheduled to take place. I just have one more session on Tuesday then I will take the rest of next week off.

    Mon 10/29
    Squat - 355x5x3

    Bench - 250x5x3
    Deadlift - 415x5

    Weds 10/31
    Squat - 360x5x3
    Press - 170x5x3
    Chins - BW+32.5x5x3

    Fri 11/2
    Squat - 365x5x3
    Bench - 255x5,4,3

Felt good, just did not rest enough between my sets.

I hope everyone who lives in the Tri-State area is doing well, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

    Tues 11/6

Last night was my last training session before the meet this Sunday. Still no power and not much gas in my neighborhood since the storm last week, fortunately I was able to wait on line for a couple of hours to fill my tank today so if I conserve I should have no worries getting to the meet. I found a place with some WiFi and was finally able to watch the Karwoski video, it was awesome. I think it will definitely help me this weekend. Today it is snowing so tonight should be pretty interesting.

I am really excited because one of my buddies and my girlfriend were able to register for the meet at the last minute so it will be great to be able to lift with them.

    Squat - 370x5x3
    Press - 172.5x5, 4, 4
    Chins - BWx12, 10, 9

The bar path got away from me a bit on the descent of the presses for some reason but I was happy with the squat. I will be resting up for the rest of the week. Can't wait to get on the platform.

Looks like you've come back strong from that injury and did well through the adversity of this storm. I lost power for four days but looks like you're going on 9 days now.

Good luck at the meet. Will be waiting to see the dominance!

    Meet Re-cap:

Competed at the RPS InsurreXtion meet yesterday at Stony Brook University on Long Island. Before I get into the meet I would just like to say that the RPS meet was a blast. I have limited competitive experience but in comparison to the APF meet I did earlier in the year this one was run much smoother. They kept things moving efficiently all day and the judging was honest and fair. It also was a very friendly atmosphere and I got to meet a lot of very cool, strong people. If I have one nitpick about the meet is that RPS has a different classification for just about anything you can think of so it is one of those "everyone gets a trophy" kind of things that Rip has joked about in the past. However, if you have a chance to do an RPS meet I would definitely recommend it.

On to the lifting. I was very happy to have my girlfriend as well as my lifting partner both competing with me. It was great to be able to get good feedback about my own attempts as well as to get some experience coaching others at a meet. My girlfriend and I both went 9/9 and my buddy Nick went 8/9 only because he missed a rack signal on his first attempt bench press.

I was able to total 1250 in the 220 pound class. This was a thirty pound improvement over my previous total and overall I was very happy with how my lifts felt. My original goal for this meet was 1300 but a recent back injury kind of derailed those plans. When I first hurt myself I was seriously considering scrapping the meet altogether so I will take the thirty pounds and be happy with it. My best lifts for the day were: 440 Squat, 300 Bench, and 510 Deadlift. All of those are meet PRs. My only other observation is that I may be the skinniest 220 pound lifter on earth and immediately need to gain twenty pounds. Below is a link to a video my girlfriend put together:

I am very happy to say that my girlfriend successfully completed her first meet and had a great time as well. She has been training off and on for about two years but has only been running a LP 2-3x/week consistently the past several months. She competed in the 165 pound class and went 9/9. She made every lift look effortless which is pretty impressive considering every attempt she took was the heaviest she had ever attempted before. I have a feeling that this will not be her last meet. Her video is below:

Finally, I have to write about my lifting partner Nick Dagastino. Nick and I met at the SS Seminar in Brooklyn back in September. Since then we have been training together at least once a week. This was Nick's first meet and he competed in the 242 pound class as a Junior. Nick is an intelligent and humble guy and has a lot of potential as a lifter. He actually won best Junior lifter and similar to my girlfriend had some room to spare. Here is the link to Nick's video:

I just want to thank Nick and Rori for all of the encouragement and support throughout the day as well as during the last several weeks. I also would like to thank everyone who has checked out my log and been nice enough to provide me with some feedback on my lifting.

    All the best,

    JP
