Looking forward to it!
Just finished my course work for PT school on Friday and start a clinical rotation next week. Thought I would start up the log again while life is not as hectic for the next few months.
10/15/18
Bench (paused): 245x5, 265x5@7, 285x5x3@8
Block Pulls (mid shin): 405x7, 455x7, 505x7@7, 545x7@8, 505x7@7.5
BB Curls: 95x12, 115x8x2
Tricep pushdown: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
I've been managing a tendonopathy in my left quad tendon since July. You will notice in the coming sessions generous use of the leg extension machine. Do not be alarmed, it is intentional, and I am not ill. Overall training has been going well the past few weeks. I'm hoping with the main stresses of constant assignments and exams over I will be able to focus more time on my training.
Looking forward to it!
Good to see you posting here again, buddy. Also, don't try to preemptively blame your quad tendinopathy for your use of the leg extension machine. We all know that you are just chasing a pump.
Ha! You caught me. I've had my eye on that baby for years.
10/16/18
Press: 185x5@7, 200x5@8, 215x5x3@9
Tempo Squats (3-0-3): 235x8, 255x8, 275x8, 245x8
Lat Pulldown: 4x10
Leg Extension: 4x10
Temp squats were down with out a belt or knee sleeves. Got a mega erector pump on the 275 set. With temp stuff I always feel like I run out of breath way before I run out of strength. Overall a solid session. The important data point will be how my knee feels tomorrow.
10/18/18
Close Grip Bench: 225x4, 245x4@7, 265x4x3@7.5
Deadlift: 465x5, 505x5@7, 545x5x3@8.5
notes: The session on 10/16 definitely had my left knee sore for 48 hrs after the session. Probably a bit too much volume between the tempo squats and the leg extension. I'm still trying to find a sweet spot. I've noticed, at least for right now, a twice a week frequency on squats is helping to manage my symptoms better than a 3 times per week frequency. On the bright side yesterdays session felt great. My deadlift feels like it is on the rise for the first time in the last couple of years.
10/19/18
Squat: 380x5, 410x5@7, 440x5x2@8.5
Strict Press: 160x8x4
Random leg shit attempting to not piss off my knee
notes: Today went better than expected. I took a slightly wider stance and stayed in my hips a little more than usual and left knee pain was very tolerable. I felt some slight shifting to the right on the second set and decided to call it after that.
10/23
Bench: 250x5, 270x5@7, 290x5x3@8
Rack Pull: 495x7, 525x7@7, 555x7@7.5, 585x7@8.5, 525x7@8
Strict Press: 165x8x3
Barbell Curls: 4 sets between 6-12 reps
notes: Both bench and rack pulls felt very strong today. 555 was the planned top set but it just felt so much lighter then expected I had to take another jump.
10/25/18
Press: 190x5, 205x5@7, 220x5x3@8,9,9.5
Squat: 385x5, 415x5@7, 445x5x2@8,9, 405x5@8
Lat pull downs/ tricep pushdowns/ lunges: 10-15 reps x 3 sets
notes: Widened my squat stance a couple of inches and focused on staying in my hips more. Was feeling left knee pain after each squat set but not during. Overall felt strong but was running out of gas quickly during the top sets for both press and squats.
Hi Nick, Thanks again for your help yesterday at the seminar. I will return to the gym on Tuesday and put your coaching into practice. p.s. I'm the guy whose knees were collapsing at the bottom of the squat
Excellent, I'm looking forward to seeing you progress. Thanks for coming to the camp and reaching out!
10/27
Tempo SQ (3-0-3): 225x8x3
Close Grip Bench: 225x5x3
notes: Took a light day. Left knee was not agreeable to progression so I just stayed at 225. Pain was tolerable at light weights but could tell I was risking a flare up if I pushed it.
10/30
Pause Bench: 275x3, 295x3@7, 315x3@8, 325x3@9
Deadlift: 555x1, 605x5 PR
Strict Press: 155x8x2
DB curls: 50x10,8
notes: Very happy with deadlift. This is the first PR I've hit since 700 in October of 2016. My previous 5 RM was 585 and 3 RM was 600. Was planning for a triple but just felt strong so I pulled it for 5. The bench may have also been a PR. If it's not it's right next to the best I've done and am due for some soon.
