Welp, I ended up being away for over a month, instead of the original planned week, but I got back into town today. I haven't touched a barbell in a month and nutrition is out the window + I've been chronically dehydrated and bleary-eyed from spending too many nights sleeping in airports and buses, but a quick glimpse at this week's news (everything from entitled private college crybaby fucksticks to assholes with bombs) reminded me that all things considered, I'm doing okay.

Training-wise, I can feel my body degrading into mush, + even now, my training situation is still completely in the shitter due to my unstable job situation. As of this moment, the plan is to stay in town doing contract work for my old boss and his janky startup for a few months, and then move out to the DC metro area when my paperwork clears DoD's bureaucrats next February-ish. However, I'll find out in a week or two if they can even afford to have me for the next few months, as the whole company might go belly-up at any moment. I'm also neurotically afraid that the DoD engineers who hired me might find out I'm actually an idiot, change their minds, and give me the ax before I even start, in which case my entire situation will be flipped on its ass and I'd have to drop everything and get back on the job-hunting circuit. Hoping to know more by next week. For now, might be a good idea to catch up on water, protein, and sleep.

Due to the above, I haven't finished writing up the details of my insane family screaming in my earballs that "weightlifting is a loathsome activity for degenerates. Also, steroids!" Will get to it tomorrow maybe.

Welp...hell froze over and pigs flew today.... I got to the gym and coach was like, "Ohhh...my......God.......who is this?????? OKAY GET TO WORK!"

Snatch bar prep x like an hour. The bar felt REALLY heavy. Fortunately, my shoulder flexibility is mostly intact.

    Snatch:
    20kg x many
    30x3x3
    40x3x3
^LULZ I actually missed one of the 40s and coach stomped out of the room.

    Clean + jerk 2+2:
    40kg x many

    Squat:
    40kgx5
    80x5
    100x5,5,6
    100kg never felt so heavy.

No stories for now, folks. The epic DOMS is kicking in already already and I have to sit through a loooong meeting tomorrow....should be awful.

Right?! We go MONTHS with no entry, and the first one is without story? It would be like the first episode of the new Game of Thrones season just playing the intro, and that's it.

Heh sorry guys. So last week was a bust, as I got sick soon after training and was down for several days. Told coach I had been sick and he went, "Hey I'm sick too. SICK OF YOUR LAZY ASS. OKAY GET TO WORK!" Got back into it today, with:

    Snatch:
    20kgx billions
    40kgx3x4
    50x3
    60x3x2

    Clean + jerk 2+2
    40kgx1x3
    60x1x3
    70x1x5

    Snatch super high pulls
    60kgx4x4

    Press:
    20kgx5
    30x5
    40x5
    50x5
    55x5
56x4x3.....ugh WTF..... My worst nightmare has come true, the day that a sub 60kg press feels hard......

    Squat:
    40kgx5
    85x5
    105x5x3....LP's are fun and easy!

    BW: 221....
Looks like I dropped 10lbs over the past 3 months of not training. Shame most of it probably came off my shoulders and quads....bleh.

Still kind of dry on the stories front....let's see...what do we have...?

I went to CES two weeks ago. For those of you not familiar, CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is the mother of all electronics conventions and takes up the entire Las Vegas Convention Center, toys spanning the area of about fifty football fields. Probably the only time I don't absolutely loathe Vegas, because the douchebags and bimbos clear out and the strip becomes a gargantuan nerdy sausagefest. Like Comic-Con, I guess, except these guys are on average 20 years older and thus better behaved. I used to joke that it was a celebration of out-of-shape middle-aged men (it's not unusual for fat guys to use Rascals to get around, because it's admittedly exhausting even for able-bodied fellas), but this year featured a noticeably studlier crowd, which I found amusing. Sure, it was still maybe 50% chubby 50-year-olds stumbling around in old three-button sportcoats and horrible khakis, neither of which could fit over their tummies, but the other half could easily appear on a Cialis commercial, for example, and lots of them were rocking some ballsy outfits (lots of these guys are in sales, after all). This also comically backfired a bit for a few Japanese businessmen dressed very conspicuously in loud windowpane suits. Best dressed guys at CES? Probably. Highly recognizable as they got their rocks off at the less than upscale establishment that is Deja Vu Showgirls? Oh yea. Did Jack and I end up stumbling out of that same seedy place down $200 each as the sun came up and the strippers put on big ugly parkas to go work their day jobs at the toptional pools? Also yes. (We were trying to schmooze with sales reps...really...) Did we successfully stick our employer with the bill? Let's see if our paperwork sneaks through accounting................

As for the actual events at CES, well, Jack and I were there to kiss up to reps from potential vendors, not to actually play. First time I've been there in a business capacity, actually, and it was a pretty different (more stressful) experience. From what little I was able to see, it looks like smart homes and the Internet of Things are riding the peak of the hype cycle. When it all shakes out, I hope you cybersecurity guys know what you're doing...

    Less fleshed out story:
CG's oncologist chuckled at how she has managed to actually put on about 10lbs of fat since the end of her treatment. Maaaaybe has to do with Tamoxifen, definitely has to do with how she has thoroughly embraced cronuts and the sedentary lifestyle. And her family gave her shit for "getting too big" lifting weights...ugh... Anyhoo she has decided to restart MMA training and is currently racked with DOMS from typical fighter-flavored S&C, i.e. tons of bodyweight squats and pushups.

    Even less fleshed out story:
I was a huge Battlestar Galactica fan in college and grad school to the point where I'd skip out on Friday social events to watch. Now re-watching the entire series + the specials, at CG's suggestion. Let's see if it's as good as I remember. (Note....with spoiler): I absolutely did not like season where they were on Caprica and Ron Moore used the show to quietly protest the Iraq War, because it seemed a pretty hollow portrayal of the mind of a suicide bomber. Will see if I feel any differently about it during the second go-around. Katee Sackhoff is still absolutely hot as balls though.

Some of us cybersecurity guys know wtf we are doing. Doesn't mean beans with the shit architectures for home networks. Sure sure, put your smart tv full of exploits on the same VLAN that your computer is on that you use to pay or bills. Or work at home.

Sure sure Give every guest that walks through your door your wifi password. Why not! Of course you want to use your phone number as your wifipassword so it's easy to remember. Yah do that!
Don't run a firewall. on anything!
Maybe pick up one of these at the very least:
iGuardian - The Home Internet Security System by ITUS Networks ?Kickstarter

You are halfway to your 200kg squat!

Bahahaha at how aggravated you are over this. You IT guys are some weird cats...

Yea my squat's in the shitter, but the time off was good for my knee. I got to 193kg on 1.5 legs, maybe 200kg on 2 won't be too far off? Coach wants us to compete at a meet in March (I wanted to do it last year but it fell through), so there's that.... Puts some fire under my arse but I'm realistic about the amount of prep I can do in six weeks, esp. when coming off a big layoff and the current work stress.

I am comically sore right now (and hung over as fuark....ugh........was out with that crazy girl referenced in E&P and there was way too much alcohol for a Tuesday............my fucking head.....) but will train after work anyway. Let's see how it goes.......

Us security folks are even more different than the regular it folks. Like bofh but worse.

I was actually trying to figure out an Siem for home use. Just because who doesn't want one ?! (Needed hardware so I've abandoned it for a bit)

As expected, I was ridiculously sore. After warmups, my legs felt better, but my traps and shoulders were extremely upset. I did:

    Snatch:
    20kgx3
    40x3x4
    50x3x3

Coach cut me off here. "Technique is good! Hey you forgot all your bad habits or something??! But SO FUCKING WEAK!! OKAY ENOUGH. PRESSES!"

    Press:
    20kgx10
    40x5
    50x4
56x5x3 LP LP LP LP rhymes with wheeeeee

Fun cue that I never actively did before, nor do I know if it is in The Book. Pan-Am (can press 55kg for a single at 55 y/o and around 80kg bw) told me she always clenches her glutes before each rep, which I consciously did for the first time ever and found it helpful.

I might have to work late tomorrow, but if not, I'll definitely go in for a bit of strength work.

    Look at this asshole:

Witnessed by Sven Schneider at last week's Pitti Uomo (2x a year men's fashion bonanza....meh I'd rather be at CES....). I get it, your clothes are a way for you to peacock, same as our traps or delts or whatever, but really? Wearing your entire wardrobe at once? I can only imagine how much this fool is sweating in the mild Italian winter under that awful jacket. The pink thing appears to be a turtleneck.

    Eyebleach:

Women like men in a suit, right? Turns out that shit goes both ways. Double that if it's Nicole Kidman.

CG: "Cut the crap. You get off on women stepping on you!"
