Georgetown Classic Powerlifting Meet (SPF - Southern Powerlifting Federation)

    Weigh-in = 218.6

    SQ (w/knee wraps)

    415 - good
    425 - good
    435 - good (15 lb. meet PR)
    Back-off set of 365x3

    BP

    280 - good
    290 - redlight
    295 - miss
    Back-off set of 255x3

    DL

    420 - good
    440 - good
455 - good (5 lb. PR and 15 lb. meet PR)

    Total = 1,170 (20 lb. meet PR)

Pretty good day today. As mentioned before, always planned to train through this meet and still hit some PR's despite less than ideal training the past few weeks. It was a long day with 9 hours between my first SQ and my last DL.

The SQ's were easy and I had another 10-15 pounds in me, maybe more. The DL were also good and might have been able to do another 5-10 pounds despite the long day. The BP continues to be my nemesis. Some may be mental, a lot of it is technique. The 290 flew up but I jumped the press command - no excuse. The 295 was coming up fine but something happened that caused the lift to go off-kilter and it cratered.

Today should provide a good training stimulus and I incurred no injuries. My goal of 1,200 for this year is definitely within reach.

Nice work, Walter. Sounds like it did what it was supposed to do as a training meet and you hit a 20lb meet PR to boot. 1200+ and a 300+ lb bench in July, here we come...

Thanks guys. Next meet will be in July so have plenty of time to add some weight to the bar. I think I'm going to get some hands-on attention to bench technique in the upcoming weeks to tighten up my form and stop throwing away lifts I can make. And, I'm not traveling as much over the next two months so will have better control over diet and sleep. Other than that, I just need to stay healthy.

    Monday, 14 April 2014

    Paused SQ - 45x5, 135x5, 225x2, 275x5
    Rack Pull - 135x5, 225x2, 315x2, 365x5
    BP w/2ct pause - 45x5, 135x5, 185x2, 225x5
    LTE - 80x3x10 / BB Curl - 60x3x12
    HLR - 3x10

Goal this week is to hit one set of 3 at RPE 9 for comp lifts and one set of 5 at RPE 9 for supplemental work. As one would expect after the competition on Saturday, the weights to hit RPE 9 today were lower than usual. A little stiff but didn't seem to be any worse for the wear from Saturday.
